Forest/SASASAAS Program at the CET Chinese Language Training
Center
August 21-Dec.10, 2000
The Wake Forest/SASASAAS Program was designed specifically
for students who attend a group of schools in the Southeast
U.S. The program is ideal for students who have never been to
China and my not have studied Chinese before. It offers a
unique combination of Chinese classes, social science courses
about contemporary China, and cultural activities that allow
you to experience China firsthand.
Where is the program?
The Wake Forest/SASASAAS Program is based at the CET
Chinese Language Training Center on the campus of the Beijing
Institute of Education (BIE). BIE is a small campus of about
800 Chinese students located in the heart of China's capital.
The program began in 1988 and is administered in Beijing by
CET Academic Programs.
What kind of background in Chinese is required?
None. Classes are offered for beginning through advanced
students.
In addition to Chinese, what will I study?
Students take two social science courses which are taught
in English, Chinese Society Today and
Popular Culture and Social Life in Contemporary China.
Can I live with a Chinese roommate?
Yes! CET administers the only program in Beijing that
offers the opportunity to live with Chinese roommates.
How about the food?
Three meals a day are included in the cost of the
program. Students may then choose to eat at the CET dining
hall or at one of the many local restaurants nearby. Chinese
cuisine is one of the finest in the world, with an unlimited
number of dishes to try!
What cultural activities and excursions are included?
At least one excursion to a place of historical interest
is organized per week. The Great Wall, Summer Palace, and
Temple of Heaven are some of the most famous of these
destinations.
Administration
The program is administered by Wake Forest University for
the South Atlantic States Association for Asian and African
Studies (SASASAAS) in cooperation with CET Academic Programs.
