Applying for Study Abroad

Laura Harting in Australia

STEP 1: Contact the OIE staff to review program information and opportunities for study abroad, internships, service learning experiences. Obtain an OIE packet with appropriate study abroad forms.

STEP 2: Meet with your academic advisor to select courses for your program abroad. Get a signature!

STEP 3: Take the form identifying your course load to the Registrar. You must carry a minimum of 12 credits. Get a signature!

STEP 4: If you are receiving financial assistance, schedule an appointment with Financial Aid to review your financial package. Financial aid may be used for summer programs abroad but you will need to consult a representative to know if using the aid over the summer will impact the following semesters. Get a signature!

STEP 5: Schedule a meeting with the Business Office to discuss the billing and payment of charges for your particular program of study. For consortium programs, you will pay L-RC the tuition, fees, room, board and all additional costs of the program. LR, in turn, pays the host school. You must make up the differential in the costs of the two programs. Turn in a Power of Attorney. Get a signature!

STEP 6: Meet with Student Life staff to make them aware of your off-campus study plans. Get a signature!

STEP 7: Bring the completed application form for the host school, Study Abroad packet, all required documents to the OIE. Review the documents with one of the staff. Get a signature! Mail the application pack to the host school before the deadline! GET A DATED RECEIPT FROM THE POST OFFICE.

NEXT: Enroll for GEN 200: International Education (1CH). Required of all students going ahead for study through L-RC approved programs. Consult Deadlines & Timelines for course schedule.
