Study abroad is for anyone!
You
don’t need to speak a foreign language or have a major in
international studies in order to attend classes or internship abroad.
Experiential learning in another country can include service learning,
formal classes or, perhaps, an internship in a career field. The Office for International Education helps
you identify overseas programs to meet your personal and professional
needs. Learn to live in a different culture! Going to a
foreign country can be challenging but our recommended programs
provide you with detailed information packets before
departure and on-site orientation programs upon arrival. In addition,
the Office for International Education offers pre-departure sessions
with study abroad faculty and staff as well as Overseas Peer
Counselors (returning L-R students). Those new to international travel
can learn from those with previous experience and ask all kinds of
questions.
Academics do matter! A G.P.A. of 2.5
is required for overseas study programs. Exceptions are sometimes made
based on extenuating circumstances. It is important to remember that
the study abroad experience is a valuable way to prepare yourself
professionally.

Graduate on time! Study abroad programs can fit
into your major so that graduation will not be delayed. Study
abroad is flexible and there are attractive programs that last for a
few weeks in the summer, one semester or an entire year.
Planning is a must! Study abroad can be arranged
for anytime after your freshman year. Ideally, a year in
advance of departure allows sufficient time for thorough planning and
preparation. Beginning the application process early in the semester
prior to departure, however, is absolutely essential.
Study in English or a foreign language! Programs
are available in countries where English is the native language
(Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, United Kingdom, and Jamaica). There are other programs in
countries where the courses are taught in English or in the native
tongue (Spain, France, Ecuador, Austria, Netherlands, Germany).

Study abroad is affordable! The Office for
International Education encourages and helps you to research for
a study abroad experience that meets your academic goals while still
being affordable. Some programs offer scholarship aid for qualified
participants.
Use Non-Institutional Financial Aid to study abroad! Through
contractual agreements with other institutions, Lenoir-Rhyne University
offers more than 30 overseas academic programs that allow LR students
to use money from such sources as federal and/or state funding, non
L-R scholarships and loans to help finance the study abroad
experience. Lenoir-Rhyne University institutional aid may not be used to
pay for off-campus programs.
