WHAT IS HARLAXTON
COLLEGE?
Harlaxton College is really two things: A
100-room Victorian manor house in the English Midlands and a
self-contained extension campus of the University of Evansville in
southern Indiana. The manor's beautiful architectural features
include the Conservatory, Great Hall, Long Gallery and Cedar Staircase.
WHO ATTENDS HARLAXTON?
Approximately 150 American college
students, sophomores through seniors, attend Harlaxton each
semester. Approximately half of the students are from the University
of Evansville; others are from universities that have contractual
arrangements with the University of Evansville. Still others are
spending a semester abroad away from their home campus anywhere in the
U.S.
HOW LONG DO MOST STUDENTS STAY?
Most stay for one
semester. Harlaxton is not a degree-granting institution.
WHAT DO STUDENTS DO AT HARLAXTON?
Harlaxton students agree that
academics are top priority. After academics, they often list travel
and the deep friendships they establish as their favorite aspects of
Harlaxton. Student activities such as a costume ball and sporting
events are always popular. Optional school arranged expeditions take
students throughout the British Isles and to Paris, Rome and
Florence. Other students prefer to explore on their own or with a
few friends. Whether studying, traveling, or preparing for the
variety show, students agree that they have little time for homesickness.
WHY CHOOSE HARLAXTON?
Harlaxton College is an
excellent choice for those who want to get to know the "real"
English countryside, untainted by tourism. The unique British
Studies curriculum provides an orientation to British life and
culture. Visits to Lincoln, London and other historic places are
incorporated into the course. Harlaxton also provides easy access to
York, Cambridge, Stratford and other towns.
