What's Available

Institute of American Universities, France
Founded in 1957 under the auspices of l'Université d'Aix-Marseille, the Institute for American Universities is one of the oldest and largest education abroad programs in Europe.  IAU has served as an academic center for more than 700 North American colleges and universities and continues to make study in France available to students who recognize the life-long value of living in and exploring a culture other than their own.  Its purpose is to provide American students with programs of intellectual substance and international focus in a fertile foreign setting for one or, better, two semesters of academic work.  Despite its vastness, the United States is a fairly homogenous country, and as a result Americans have always understood the advantages of study abroad.  Today, because America can no longer claim global political and economic dominance, experience tempered by the perspectives of another country is an even better idea.  As nations around the world become increasingly interdependent, every profession and occupation will inevitably have an international dimension.  Those who have lived and studied abroad will find their intercultural knowledge and understanding essential as they become decision makers and develop their careers.  Any student open to learning and willing to grow may return home intellectually transformed, or at least changed in unexpected and welcome ways.
