About
the School for Field Studies
Founded in 1980, the School for
Field Studies (SFS) is the country's
oldest and largest study abroad program
exclusively devoted to undergraduate environmental
field studies. SFS teaches students environmental
problem-solving skills through cooperative field
work with local communities, conservation
organizations and government agencies. SFS deals
with a diverse range of critical environmental
issues in ecosystems around the world.

Our academic programs
are a unique approach to community-based
environmental problem-solving. They are designed
to train students to engage in high-quality field
research that addresses the needs of the local

Courses: led by
individual faculty members to provide core
lectures and academic activities needed to
understand the content most pertinent to answering
case study questions (courses include natural
resource management, socio-economics/policy and
terrestrial or marine ecology.
Admission
We
seek to put together a group
of students who will work together as a team.
Applications are reviewed on a year-round basis.

Financial Aid
On average, 50% of our
students receive financial assistance from SFS or
their home school to participate in our programs.
