What's Available
Study abroad is a life-changing experience. Adapting to a foreign culture firsthand allows
students to develop an entirely new perspective about themselves and the world
around them. Expanding horizons with a semester abroad demonstrates a
sense of adventure, curiosity and flexibility. Studying abroad enhances
communication and inter-personal skills, lends distinction to resumes, and
attracts the attention of potential employers, regardless of the student’s
major.
Through consortia agreements with organizations and institutions
that administer the programs described below, students who enroll in these
programs are registered for classes at Lenoir-Rhyne and receive transfer credit for
their course work. Students retain any non-institutional financial aid they
receive and can apply it toward their study abroad. Lenoir-Rhyne’s
principal options for study abroad are:

SPANISH SUMMER SESSION IN ECUADOR
LR Spanish professors Dr. Robert Eckard and Dr. Arturo Ortiz
accompany student groups and conduct programs in Cuenca, Ecuador. This program
includes intensive language study, a family home-stay and excursions into the
tropical rain forest. |

CENTRAL COLLEGE
Central College in Pella, Iowa, operates ten foreign study centers
in: Austria, China, Kenya, Great Britain (two in England and one in Wales), France, Mexico,
the Netherlands, and Spain. Many Central programs offer the possibility of
service learning experiences in the host communities. Students seeking
internships may elect to work in business, educational, governmental or social
service settings.

ARCADIA
UNIVERSITY
Arcadia University offers a wide array of excellent programs for semester
and summer study abroad. Options are available in several locations in the
United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Ireland, Greece and Mexico. Opportunities
for combined study/internship programs allow students greater cultural immersion
and enhanced marketability after graduation.

PARTNERSHIP FOR SERVICE-LEARNING
PSL students can engage in a combined program of community service
and academic study in the United Kingdom, Ecuador, France, Israel, Jamaica,
Mexico, the Czech Republic, the Philippines, or India. There is also an option
for study and service on the Pine Ridge Reservation of the Lakota Sioux in South
Dakota. Each student is placed in a capacity in accordance with their academic
major, skills, interests, and the needs of the communities served |

SALVATION ARMY SUMMER PROJECT IN ZAMBIA
The L-R School of Nursing sponsors a five-week
summer project at the Salvation Army Mission in Zambia. This program includes
hands-on opportunities as students work in this small hospital and participate
in clinical visits in the surrounding villages. |

INTERNATIONAL
UNIVERSITY STUDIES, SEVILLE, SPAIN
Educational excellence, cutural depth, personal enrichment
-- an experience of a lifetime! All these await you when you study
abroad in Seville, Spain, with IUS. To American college students with a
sincere desire to speak the Spanish language and understand the Spanish
culture, IUS offers a quality extension of a liberal arts education. |

INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES, FRANCE
IAU offers study opportunities at institutions in Avignon and
Aix-en-Provence in southern France. There are a limited number of internships in
journalism, communication, the arts, psychology, education and social work.

UNIVERSITY OF EVANSVILLE’S HARLAXTON COLLEGE PROGRAM,
ENGLAND
LRC may send up to 20 students (plus one professor) annually to the
Harlaxton campus near Grantham. Weekend excursions introduce students to major
sites in England, Ireland and Scotland. |

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY/SASASAAS PROGRAM
This program is administered by Wake Forest University for the South
Atlantic States Association for Asian and African Studies (SASASAAS). A faculty
director accompanies student groups to Bejing, China.

THE SCHOOL FOR FIELD STUDIES: ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD STUDIES
ABROAD
The School for Field Studies is the country's oldest and largest
study abroad program exclusively devoted to undergraduate environmental
field studies. SFS teaches students environmental problem-solving skills
through cooperative field work with local communities, conservation
organizations and government agencies.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
There are countless other opportunities to work and study all over
the world. Any courses taken outside the umbrella of programs governed by
contractual agreements between Lenoir-Rhyne College and affiliated institutions
and organizations may receive transfer credit. Students may not be permitted to
use their financial aid package to help finance these programs.
