About the Core Curriculum:

The core curriculum consists of 53-67 credit hours (depending on your major) combining areas to assist in your development as a “whole person,” not just as a student.  Below is a series of questions to assist us in placing you in courses to meet the core curriculum requirements.  Keep in mind that while we will do everything in our power to honor your preference, sometimes your course schedule will demand taking something from a different interest.  It is also important to recognize that certain majors require pre-determined core courses which will also limit the flexibility of your preferred courses.

FOR COURSE DESCRIPTIONS PLEASE REFER TO OUR WEBSITE:
http://www.lrc.edu/registrar/catalog/

*Required Fields

Fine Arts

* To fulfill the fine arts core requirement course work in one of the following must be completed.  Please check the area you have the most interest in exploring at the collegiate level.

 Art
Music
Theater

Students may choose to take a theory/appreciation based course in one of these areas to fulfill the requirement, or take courses involving more participation, as long as the three credit-hour requirement is met.  For example, instead of taking MUS 200 – Music Appreciation, student may choose to be involved in music ensembles for three semesters to a total of three credit hours.  For other examples of participation courses, please refer to the College catalog online or wait to discuss it with your academic advisor.

* Which would you prefer?  Theory/Appreciation Course
Participation Course

Foreign Language

* How many semesters of foreign language did you take in High School?

* Which Foreign Language did you take in high school?

* For your core language requirement, please choose one (Please note, you may choose different languages than you studied in high school)

Note: Language classes should be taken during your first or second year of study, and you may not be able to meet that requirement with your first choice, so please indicate a second choice below:

What foreign language would you be willing to study in case your first choice language classes are filled?

If you feel your high school language preparation has been strong, you might want to consider not repeating basic level language here at L-R.  If you would like to advance into intermediate classes, you may take a placement test and if you pass, begin language courses at the 200 level.  Six credit hours at the 200 level will satisfy the core requirement for language.  If you are successful with these six hours at the 200 level, we will then also grant you six more hours, at no additional charge, for the introductory level courses as well.

* Are you interested in taking a placement exam to be placed out of entry level foreign language courses?

  Yes   No
