Argos is a project dedicated to the creation of a
series of glossaries in the fields of art,
artisan crafts and restoration. It is a free
service offered on the
internet. Lenoir-Rhyne College's Art
Department is the only academic institution in
the United States who has exclusive rights of
representation in this international and
multilingual partnership with the Florence
Institute of Art. According to Dr. Claudio
Paolini, Technical Director of the ARGOS project,
"Offering this collaboration (to
Lenoir-Rhyne's Art Department) was particularly
possible thanks to Dr. Winter's expertise in the
field of the History of Art -fundamental for a
correct development of the working program- and
for his profound knowledge of the Italian
language and its concurrent technical
terminology."
About
The Argos Project
For
the first time in history, every term, definition
and technical description ever coined in the
history of the fine arts, crafts, architecture
and arts restoration will be compiled into a
multilingual (English, French, Spanish and
Italian) database glossary, available on-line to
all at no charge. A printed glossary is to be
published in early 2000, however the Italian
version is now on-line, with the three other
language versions now being reviewed.
Lenoir-Rhyne
Colleges Art Department is the only
academic institution in the United States that
has exclusive rights to be linked to this
international partnership with the Florence
Institute of Art, due to Department Chair Dr.
Robert Winters efforts in helping to
compile and translate the terms.
