WB01338_.gif (869 bytes) GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

MIS is a continuation of CSC 175. Emphasis is on decision making, the need for information, and the use of computer systems as a provider of the information.

WB01338_.gif (869 bytes)  HONORS PROGRAM REQUIREMENT: If you are interested in graduating with honors from the Charles M. Snipes School of Business, this is one of the two honors courses, BUS 320 and BUS 344, needed to fulfill the honors requirement. You must have a G.P.A. of 3.2 overall and 3.5 in the business core classes taken to qualify.  Please see the instructor for additional requirements for this course.

 WB01338_.gif (869 bytes) ASSIGNMENTS:

*Weekly Readiness Assessment Tests: There will be short, weekly readiness assessment tests on one chapter. Tests will be taken at the beginning of class first individually and then by group. The tests will be graded immediately and the results discussed.

*Projects
: Twenty-five projects are required. Projects are on this web page. Projects will require the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Completed projects will be graded off the screen by the dates given on the class calendar. No grades will be given for late projects.  You may stop coming to lab when all your projects are turned in.  If you do not attend a lab, you will not get credit for the project completed as a group in class. Do not print out all the projects; these may change over the semester.

*Research and Presentation
: Research on a topic of your choice that is related to the class will be required using the WWWeb or NC Live as your sources. Eight to twenty  web sources will be required for your works-cited. All copies of the web pages must be turned in with the PowerPoint presentation.
After you organize your and read your sources, make an outline. The outline should be done in MS Word before you do your PowerPoint. The outline should be different than the words on your PowerPoint presentation.  Highlight and number your sources to correspond with your outline.  Copies of the PowerPoint presentation must be turned in printing 6 slides to a page. Due dates for the topic and PowerPoint presentation are found on the MIS calendar.  If you do not present on the day you are scheduled, you will make a zero on this portion of your grade.  See check sheet at the bottom of this page.

*Final Project: Students will be required to design their own decision support or high level Excel, Word or Access project. A written description and an oral PowerPoint presentation will be required towards the end of the semester. Students may demonstrate a high level function of software that has not been demonstrated in class or in lab projects.  The project idea is required on the date specified on the calendar. A PowerPoint presentation of your project is required. Print out slides 6 to a page to turn with your description and your spreadsheets and equations. If you do not present on the day you are scheduled, you will make a zero on this project.  See check sheet on the bottom of this page.
