The English Program at
Lenoir-Rhyne
 |
There
are books so alive that you're always afraid that while you
weren't reading, the book has gone and changed, has shifted like
a river; while you went on living, it went on living too, and
like a river moved on and moved away. No one has stepped twice
into the same river. But did anyone ever step twice into the
same book?

The
English major provides adventure as well as marketable analytical and
communication skills. Majors enjoy reading British, American, and
world literature alongside in-depth explorations of fiction, poetry,
drama, and rhetoric. Our program also offers a certificate in creative
writing, where you can develop your craft in small
poetry or fiction workshops and tutorials.
Your
experience with the English major doesn't stop in the
classroom. You can participate in the Visiting
Writers Series, working with Pulitzer-prize winners. You
write for the Lenoir-Rhynean,
our campus newspaper, or the HACAWA,
our the yearbook. You can submit your creative work for publication in the campus literary
magazine, Cantos. You can work side-by-side with a professor under a faculty-student
research grant. Check out our Opportunities page for more
information.
Regardless of
the focus you choose, the English major provides a great
opportunity to achieve deeper self-awareness and understanding of
others.
