Major courses offered Fall 2008:

ENG 271. READING POETRY.

A study of poetic conventions and forms, both Western and World, including critical approaches to the genre. Four credits.

 

ENG 371. ADVANCED RHETORIC AND WRITING.

A writing intensive study of rhetorical conventions, forms, and theory particular to non-fiction prose and critical approaches to prose analysis. Four credits. 

 

ENG 304. AMERICAN NOVEL II.

Study of the development of the American novel from the Civil War to the present, with attention to historical contexts and critical approaches. Two credits.

 

ENG 305. AMERICAN REALISM AND NATURALISM.

Study of American fiction between the Civil War and World War I, with attention to historical contexts and critical approaches. Two credits.

 

ENG 480. SENIOR SEMINAR.

Intensive literary study culminating in the writing and presentation of a major critical paper. Four credits. 

 

ENG 498. SENIOR HONORS RESEARCH.

Directed readings and research for honors students in the area related to the honors thesis. Two credits.

A study of narrative conventions and forms, both Western and World, including

critical approaches to the genre. Four credits. 

 

ENG 330. VISITING WRITER-IN-RESIDENCE WORKSHOP IN POETRY

A writing workshop in poetry taught Julie Fay, Visiting Writer in Residence.  Two credits.

 

ENG 370. READING DRAMA.

A study of dramatic conventions and forms, both Western and World, including

critical approaches to the genre. Four credits.

 

ENG 499. SENIOR HONORS THESIS.

Independent study and research. Honors thesis directed by a member of the

program and a faculty committee. An oral defense of thesis. Four credits.
