English Major
The
Lenoir-Rhyne English curriculum is designed to graduate
inquisitive, confident majors who can:

generate
an informed intellectual response to any given literary text,
including the ability to recognize genre, form, and relevant
rhetorical features and to extrapolate from these elements
relevant historical / cultural contexts

develop
an authentic affective response to any given literary text,
including the ability to reflect on how it connects to their
sense of self and place in the world and to respond to it from
the perspective of an informed aesthetic understanding

conduct
significant research informed by a sophisticated understanding
of critical approaches and practice

generate
an articulate, rhetorically appropriate response or argument
to any given issue or problem, when reasonably informed on the
issue
