Summer Camps and Conferences
Information
Welcome to Lenoir-Rhyne University!
This information is designed to acquaint you with services
available to you during your stay on our campus. It contains various
topics of interest as well as policies and procedures that are
designed to help ensure your visit is safe and enjoyable. If you
have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask a
member of the Event Services staff. We are here to assist you and
sincerely hope your stay with us is a pleasant one. Please visit our

Office Hours
Your primary contact person for your event is your organization’s
camp or conference coordinator. Lenoir-Rhyne University Event Services
staff members will be available during the designated check-in and
checkout times as well as during staff office hours, Monday – Friday
between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Parking
During the summer, guests may park in designated Lenoir-Rhyne
University parking lots without a permit. Parking is prohibited in
spaces marked for handicapped, 24-hour reserved, faculty / staff /
maintenance / housekeeping, with yellow curbing or blocking a fire
hydrant. These areas are strictly monitored at all times and all
parking restrictions on campus are enforced.
Emergency Procedures on Campus
Check the fire evacuation plan of your building and residence
hall and locate fire exits upon arrival. Know how to find them in
the dark. In the event of a fire, pull the nearest fire alarm and
leave the building by the nearest exit. DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS. Do
not re-enter the building until the fire department, police or
Lenoir-Rhyne University Security tells you it is safe.
In the event of an emergency, please call Lenoir-Rhyne University
Security at ext. 7146. To call for fire, police or ambulance
emergency response: DIAL 9-911 from a campus phone.
On Campus Security
Lenoir-Rhyne University Security Services has uniformed officers
patrolling campus 24 hours a day and can be reached by dialing ext.
7146 from any campus phone. If you are off-campus, dial (828)
328-7146.
Telephone
All rooms are equipped with a telephone line. You may use your
own phone; one will not be provided unless prearranged by your event
coordinator. There are telephones located throughout campus for your
use.
On-campus Calls: Dial the last 4 digits of
the phone number.
Off-campus Calls: Dial 9 followed by the
phone number.
Credit Card, Calling Card & Collect Calls: Dial 9
followed by the area code and number. Refer to the back of your
credit or calling card for further specific instructions.
Lenoir-Rhyne University does not accommodate collect calls.

Residence Hall Furnishings
All residence halls are air-conditioned with carpeted rooms.
Rooms are furnished with single beds, desk and chair, freestanding
or built-in dressers and closet space. Each room is equipped with
Internet and cable connections. To access these amenities, you will
need to bring your own computer or television with a coaxial cable.
Each residence hall has lounge areas and access to laundry
facilities and vending machines. The Living Learning Center has an
elevator and each room contains a kitchenette. All other residence
halls have a community kitchenette.
Residence Hall Regulations
Camp and conference participants residing in college housing are
required to abide by the laws of the State of North Carolina and the
regulations of Lenoir-Rhyne University. These rules are enforced to
ensure the safety and comfort of our guests and to protect the
rights of all camp and conference participants and guests. Anyone
failing to observe the regulations or engaging in inappropriate
behavior may be dismissed from the camp or conference and will be
required to leave the facility immediately.
Housing Policies
Residence hall living is based on respect and consideration for
all individuals. Respecting the rights of others is an essential
element of maintaining a comfortable living environment and is
required by all guests. Please inform our staff members of any
issues that require attention. Our goal is to do all we can to make
your camp or conference a success and your stay at Lenoir-Rhyne
University enjoyable. Please review the following housing regulations
upon arrival:
• Furniture is not to be removed from the rooms or the
lounges.
• Beds are not to be disassembled.
• Mattresses are not to be removed from the bed.
• Possession or use of firearms, firecrackers, gunpowder
or explosives is prohibited.
• Pets are not permitted.
• Tampering with or misuses of the fire alarm systems
and firefighting equipment is prohibited.
• Candles and open flames are prohibited.
• Curfews are enforced for youth groups at the request
of the camp coordinator. Youth participants
must be in the residence halls at the designated time.
• Exterior doors are not to be blocked open for any
reason.
• Smoking is NOT permitted in the residence halls or any
Lenoir-Rhyne University facility.
• Alcohol is not to be consumed in the common areas such
as hallways, lounges or recreation areas
unless special arrangements have been made with Event
Services and proper authorities.
Guests of legal drinking age (21) may consume alcohol in the
privacy of their rooms as long
as long as their doors are closed and any noise or behavior
does not disturb others. No alcohol
is permitted in youth camps.
The college reserves the right to institute, delete or modify
other regulations as necessary for the maximum comfort, convenience
and safety of all concerned. All such regulations, whether existing
or hereafter adopted, shall be of the same form and effect as the
regulations stated above.
Climate Control
We strive for your stay at Lenoir-Rhyne University to be as
comfortable as possible. If your conference will be using one of the
auditoriums or the various classrooms and meeting rooms, it would be
a good idea to pack a sweater. In many buildings it is difficult to
maintain a steady climate, especially during the summer months.
Residence Hall Climate Control Instructions:
ISENHOUR HALL, FRITZ-CONRAD, PRICE VILLAGE
Event Services personnel must adjust the thermostat. Please
contact the Event Services staff during office hours.
MORGAN HALL
Thermostat is located in the room.
LIVING LEARNING CENTER
Thermostat is located in the suite lobby.
Amenities
Building & Room Security – Residence
hall entrances may be accessed only through the use of an access
card. Price Village Units have individual punch codes. Each room is
secured with its own lock.
Computer Access – Adult conference
guests will be provided, through their event coordinator, a guest
User Name and Password to use during their conference. Computer labs
available for guest use are in the Cromer Center, Rhyne Building and
Rudisill Library. Please keep in mind summer school students will
also be on campus using these facilities.
Laundry – Coin-operated washers and
dryers are located in each residence hall. All laundry machines take
quarters only and each load costs $1.00. Please ask the Event
Services staff for the specific location in your building.
Library – A Lenoir-Rhyne University ID
is required to borrow books from the Carl Rudisill Library. However,
guests are permitted to utilize library materials within the
facility during posted operating hours.
Linen - Linen is only provided
through contractual agreement. Additional linen packets are
available upon request. Each packet contains 2 sheets, 1 pillow, 2
towels and 1 washcloth. Blankets are NOT available.
McCrorie Fitness Center - Adult guests are permitted to
use the McCrorie Fitness Center during its normal operating hours.
These hours will be posted and available upon arrival. To enter the
facility you will be asked to present your conference ID.
Pool – The indoor swimming pool is
located in the Shuford Gym Complex. Guests are permitted to use this
facility during its normal operating hours. These hours will be
posted and available upon arrival. To enter the facility you will be
asked to present your conference ID. For exclusive use of the pool,
your camp coordinator may reserve a block of time. A fee for
lifeguards will then apply.
Quiet Hours – All guests are to be
considerate of their neighbors at all times. We ask that all groups
keep noise to a minimum in and around the residence halls between
11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
Vending Machines
– Vending machines are located in the residence halls and various
buildings around campus. If you loose money in one of the machines,
you may request a refund at the LRU Business Office located on the
second floor of the Lineberger Building between the hours of 8:00
a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Housekeeping
During your conference, housekeepers will be in the residence
halls on a daily basis to empty the trash containers, clean the hall
restrooms and provide upkeep of the public areas but will not clean
individual rooms. Occupants are responsible for keeping their rooms
and the contents in good order. Individual trashcans located in
residence hall rooms or suite bathrooms should be emptied into the
large containers located in the common areas of the building.
The normal hours for our housekeeping staff are 5:00 a.m. – 2:00
p.m., Monday – Friday. If you have special housekeeping needs please
notify the housekeeping staff or contact Event Services.
Maintenance
The operating hours for our maintenance crew are 8:00 a.m. - 4:00
p.m., Monday - Friday. If you find that a facility that is in need
of repair or general maintenance please contact Event Services.
Room Keys & Access Cards
Building Access Cards and Room Keys will be issued to each guest
at check-in. If you are locked out of your room, notify your camp or
conference coordinator who will contact either Event Services or LRU
Security. Please take note of the door locking system for your
particular residence hall.
Lost keys and access cards or failure to return them at
check out will result in a $50.00 replacement fee for each.
ISENHOUR HALL & MORGAN HALL
Each conference participant will be issued a room key and
access card.
LIVING LEARNING CENTER
Each conference participant will be issued a key to the
apartment, a room key and access card.
PRICE VILLAGE
Each conference participant will be issued a room key to be used on
the room DEADBOLT only and a code for the unit front door.
On the outside door of each unit punch in the code; turn the
latch on the lock AND the doorknob at the same time.
Do NOT lock the unit front door.
Also do NOT lock the key lock on the bottom of your room
door.
FRITZ-CONRAD
Each conference participant will be issued a room key and
access card. Your access key will open the front entrance of
Fritz-Conrad. Once inside the building, the combination for all
floors is the code that was given to you at check-in.
Room Damage
Assigned occupants of each room are financially responsible for
keeping the room and its contents in good order and free from
damage. Rooms will be inspected after departure to assess their
condition and to check for personal belongings. Furniture is not to
be disassembled, removed or rearranged. The cost of any room damage
or extra custodial service will be charged.
Post Office
There is a full service post office located in the lower level of
the Cromer Center. UPS and Federal Express services are also
available.
Incoming mail will be delivered to the conference coordinator for
distribution. Mail received after your departure will be returned to
the sender. Mail needs to be addressed in the following manner:

University Bookstore
The Lenoir-Rhyne University Bookstore offers gifts and apparel for
students, alumni, family, friends, and kids. Visit the bookstore in
the lower level of the Cromer Center or order on line. In addition
to merchandise, Gift Certificates are available. Days and hours of
business vary during the summer.
Food Service
Each camp or conference coordinator has contracted to arrive at
the dining hall within a set timeframe. If additional hours are
needed, they must be arranged ahead of time. Participants are asked
to enter the dining hall with their group so the dining staff will
be able to verify the number of participants.
Aramark is our contract food service provider and the Cromer
Center Dining Hall is an all-you-can-eat facility. Participants with
special food service needs should forward this information to the
conference coordinator as soon as possible. Special catering
requests are available with advance notice and will be priced
separately.
Recreation
Walking
For the “Walking Enthusiasts,” the perimeter of the campus
is just under a mile long. It is a common walking path for employees
and local residents as well. It is well lighted and therefore, very
safe. Simply stay on the sidewalk and circle the campus.
Baseball
Hickory has it’s own professional Class A Baseball Team – The
Crawdads. For dates and times of games, please call (828) 322-3000

Shopping
Valley Hills Mall is located on Hwy. 70 in Hickory
and is anchored by Dillards, Belk, JC Penney and Sears. There are 70
additional shops including the nationally known stores such as The
Limited, Victoria’s Secret, and Express.
There is additional shopping located behind Valley Hills Mall on
Catawba Valley Blvd. This shopping center consists of Target,
Kohl’s, Old Navy, Marshall’s, Best Buy, and more.
Shoppe’s on the Parkway is located in Blowing Rock,
which is a 45-minute, scenic drive straight up 321 north. It is a
collection of over 35 manufactures’ outlet stores featuring first
quality merchandise.
Blowing Rock is also the home of the Blue Ridge Parkway, which
has been rated as “America’s most scenic drive” by leading travel
writers. There are nature trails, waterfalls, parks and many awesome
views along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Admissions & Campus Tours
Interested in obtaining more information about attending
Lenoir-Rhyne University or participating in a campus tour? Our

ext. 7300 from any campus phone.
Checkout
In order to provide our conference guests with the best
possible service, please do the following when you check out of your
room.
1. Be prepared to promptly check out at the contracted time.
2. Tidy up your room and empty individual trashcans located in
residence hall rooms or suite bathrooms into the large containers
located in the common areas of the building.
3. Check your room before you leave to ensure that personal
belongings are not left in the closets, drawers, etc.
4. Close the windows.
5. Place all linen inside the pillowcase and place in the lobby of
your residence hall prior to departure. Pillows should be left in
the rooms.
6. Return room key and access card to LRU Event Service staff.
