Opportunities For Lutherans

Lenoir-Rhyne is North Carolina's only Lutheran College. What a wonderful opportunity for Lutherans to be able to earn a four-year degree at a private institution with a solid reputation for educating the mind, body and soul.

At Lenoir-Rhyne, the opportunities for Lutheran students are endless. Lutherans have the advantage of being able to participate in several denomination-oriented financial aid options.

Martin Luther Fellows

The Martin Luther Fellows Scholarship Program. The program is made possible by gifts to the NC synod-wide Our College - Our Future campaign.

The program, available only for North Carolina students, is designed to recognize the outstanding contributions to church and community and the overall merit of rising high school seniors, and to encourage those individuals to attend Lenoir-Rhyne.

  • Selections are made by a local congregational committee with guidance from the college’s admissions office.

  • The recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship annually for four years as long as normal academic progress toward graduation is maintained. Scholarship recipients are eligible for additional financial aid including grants, loans and other scholarships.

  • The Financial Aid office requires all students to annually complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to receive additional monies.

  • Committees are asked to make their selections as early as possible. Candidates will have to meet the college’s minimum standards for admission. Contact the Admissions Office at 1-800-277-5721 for details on applying to and acceptance by L-R.

  • Forms are mailed in the fall to use in notifying the college of a church's selection and should be returned no later than July 1st.

  • The L-R Office of Admissions administers this program in conjunction with the L-R Office of Church Relations. Questions may be directed to either office. For details, call the L-R Office of Church Relations at (828) 328-7167 or call or e-mail Karen Feezor in the L-R Office of Admissions at (828) 328-7300 or 1-800-277-5721.

Friends In Faith

You can take part in L-R’s relationship with the Lutheran Church through the Friends in Faith program for church members who attend the college.

  • All full-time undergraduate Lutheran students are eligible. Lenoir-Rhyne will match awards from congregations up to a maximum of $250 per semester for eight semesters. This could result in an annual grant of $1,000 ($500 from your congregation and $500 from L-R.) This award can be used to cover tuition costs only.

  • Friends in Faith scholarships are given in addition to any other awards that you may have already received from L-R. Upon receiving an offer of admission from the college, we ask that your church contact us (1-800-277-5721) to indicate their interest in participating in this program.

  • As with all of our scholarship programs, participants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), as well as our institutional scholarship application. In order to be included as part of your complete financial award, churches are required to send payments by July 1st. Only congregational checks will be accepted. For details on gaining a nomination form for Friends in Faith, e-mail Karen Feezor.
