The student-designed major involves, in addition to all core
requirements and enough elective hours to meet the one hundred twenty-eight credits
required for graduation, not less than twenty-four credits in one academic division with
not less than twelve credits coming from one department or area within that division. In
addition, not less than twelve credits must be taken from each of two other academic
divisions.
The student-designed program must be approved by the Academic Program Committee, which
is composed of faculty and students and chaired by the Vice President and Dean for
Academic Affairs
A student may not formulate a General Studies Program for a major already offered through
a department of the College.
If a student chooses to formulate his own area of concentration, the major includes a
minimum of eighteen credits in one department or area, and a minimum of thirty-six credits
in the total area of concentration.
All student-designed General Studies majors/concentrations must include a minimum of
twelve credits (excluding Religion 400 and Science 300) of course work at the 300/400
level from Lenoir-Rhyne.
A student choosing a General Studies major other than one of the faculty-approved
concentrations must file an application in the academic dean's office no later than the
end of one's junior year or one calendar year preceding the date of graduation.
MAJOR: Lenoir-Rhyne College offers a major
in General Studies. A General Studies major earns a B.A. degree.
Students may select an area of concentration that has already been
developed or formulate another concentration:
