Athletic Training Program

 

Description of the Degree

 

The Athletic Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and is designed to prepare students to qualify for certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association as an Athletic Trainer. Courses and experiences are designed to prepare the student as a professional decision maker. A strong emphasis is placed on academic and clinical education within the degree. With this academic charge, the program prepares qualified professionals who are able to use their knowledge and skills in providing service to athletes of all ages and abilities.

 

 

Mission Statement


Consistent with the mission and goals of Lenoir-Rhyne College, the Athletic Training Education Program seeks to develop individuals who are:

  1. Prepared for service to God and mankind  through the healing art and science of Athletic Training.

  2. Critical thinkers, caring, and skilled clinicians.

  3. Leaders for the profession, the community, and the world.

The Athletic Training Education Program at Lenoir-Rhyne College is charged with dual responsibilities: the education of allied health professionals formally trained in athletic training competencies and the health and welfare of the athletic population. 

 

Academically, the program strives to prepare students to:

  1. Meet eligibility requirements for certification by the Board of Certification.

  2. Qualify for post-graduate education.

  3. Gain employment in various allied health settings.

  4. Promote professionalism in the field of Athletic Training through their work, research, and continued education.

With this academic charge, the program prepares qualified professionals who are able to use their knowledge and skills in providing service to athletes of all ages and abilities. Athletically, the program strives to provide total health care for the athletic population.

The Athletic Training degree is a Bachelor of Science Degree designed to prepare entry-level athletic trainers. As a graduate, students are eligible to sit for the Board of Certification exam.

 

 

What are the major requirements?

In addition to Lenoir-Rhyne College's core requirements , students must fulfill the necessary coursework to graduate as outlined below. This information can also be found in the HLSS section of the college catalog. A minimum of 128 credit hours are needed to graduate.

Successful completion of a comprehensive assessment examination. 0
*Note:  
Successful completion of the swimming proficiency test will exempt students from the aquatics requirement. Students who fail to take the proficiency test or do not pass the test by the middle of their junior year must successfully complete HLS 107, 108, 120, 130, 131 or 132 to graduate. Students should note that, at the present time, beginning swimming is offered on alternate years only. The swimming proficiency test will be administered once each semester.
