Portfolios
Whatever you else you read below,
keep this in mind: The goal or purpose of your portfolio is for you to
demonstrate both how you grew as a scholar and a person and how you contributed
to—and participated in—the mission of the Honors Program of Lenoir-Rhyne
College. It is intended to stimulate critical thinking about your college
experience. Finally, it should be useful to you in presenting your work and your
achievements to others outside the Honors Program or even the College (e.g.
potential employers or graduate schools).
The most important
characteristic of your portfolio will be the critical reflection on your growth
as a scholar and how you need to grow as a scholar. As such it is primarily
narrative. Your portfolio will be structured in three basic parts: (a) a
reflection; (b) statement of goals; and (c) an appendix with supporting material
(a resume and your community service log is required in the appendix).
Your portfolio is due at the end of
your junior year. The Honors Director may ask you to resubmit it if it should
not be satisfactory.

did you grow? |

How did you fall
short? |

Statement of Goals
Talk about the goals you had (as a first year student) and continue to
have for yourself and indicate the relationship between these goals and the
mission of Lenoir-Rhyne University and the Honors Academy. You will want to address
the following:
| (1) |
What are your
goals for your final year at Lenoir-Rhyne University? |
| (2) |
What are your
goals for the first 5 years upon graduating from Lenoir-Rhyne University? |
| (3) |
What your goals
for the more distant future beyond? |
C.
Appendix
Your resume and community
service log should be included here.
Please note that these items are the only required elements in the appendix. You
should attend a resume writing workshop offered at the Career Center in your
junior year and include a statement that you have
indeed done so. The staff at the Career Center can help you clarify and name the
skills you are learning.
If
entered the Honors Program in Fall 2005 or after, you should include a copy of
your Reflective Essay.
