Selection Tools for Books and Media

Choice Reviews Online. This is the familiar source of reviews aimed at academic libraries, especially strong in the liberal arts and sciences. While the library will continue to print and send lists of these titles to the schools, you may find it useful to do your own searching.

Books-In-Print (BIP). We subscribe to this well-known source of information on titles currently in-print, forthcoming, out-of-print. We can sometimes obtain OP titles through used book dealers. Search by keyword, browse by subject, and in some cases link to a review or synopsis. There are two interfaces to chose from; Patron Books-in-Print may be a little more user-friendly.

Resources for College Libraries (RCL). This is a newly updated, very selective list of the best books, films, etc. for College Libraries as compiled by a distinguished group of subject specialists. This source is not so useful for finding new material, but is helpful for filling in gaps in areas where you think the collection may be lacking classic works.
