St. Andrew's, also known as "The University Church," was organized in the chapel
of Lenoir College on January 29, 1893. St. Andrew's was built to provide a place of
worship to local residents without making them go downtown. The current St. Andrew's was
completed in 1951.
St. Andrew's and Lenoir-Rhyne College have had their histories intertwine. Three of
the four founders of Lenoir-Rhyne College helped charter St. Andrew's congregation. Many
of LR's faculty have been members of St. Andrews and all ten of LR's Presidents have been
members. Students also have exclusive privileges at the church. St.
Andrew's and LR have both benefited
from one another's existence.
