A Welcome from the School Chair

Dr. Daniel KiserWelcome to the Music Program at Lenoir-Rhyne College. You will find in these web pages evidence of a superb music program. Our faculty, ensembles, and curriculum provide students with the opportunities they need to realize success in careers in music education, music performance, as church musicians, and in arts management. Our program also serves students in all majors through opportunities to perform with excellent, and very active, choral and instrumental ensembles.

Our curriculum is strong in music education and music performance and features a nationally recognized program in Sacred Music. Our graduates have gone on to advanced study in some of the top university music programs in the country, including Yale University, the University of Kentucky, the University of Illinois, the University of Iowa, and Ball State University.. Many are serving as highly successful university professors, music educators, music performers, and church musicians throughout the eastern United States.

Our faculty is recognized for its excellence in both performance and in scholarship. Dr. Paul Weber, Director of the Sacred Music Program, is the Raabe Prize winner for Excellence in Composition (2003). Dr. John Cheek is a Fullbright Scholar (2001) and a pianist of international reputation. And, Prof. Judith Burbank joined the music faculty in 2002 after a highly successful career as an opera singer in Germany. These are just a few of the highlights of the successes of our music faculty. Please feel free to browse the faculty web pages for details on our distinguished faculty.

You can also find evidence of excellence in student performance. Our ensembles are extremely active both in the Hickory area and across the eastern seaboard. By clicking to the left on the links to "Choral" or "Instrumental" music, you can listen to sound files that are representative of our fine ensembles.

We would be delighted to show you around our beautiful campus and help you explore the opportunities available to you in the Music Program at Lenoir-Rhyne College. Feel free to give us a call or e-mail us if we can be of any help.
