Timothy Jon Phillips
Applied Trumpet

Timothy Jon Phillips, a native of Hudson, N.C., has provided all types of music for the Unifour area since 1975. Educated at Western Carolina University, Depaul University in Chicago, Lenoir-Rhyne College and the NC School of the Arts, Mr. Phillips has studied with Mr. Jim Manley of St Louis, Mr. Arnold Jacobs, Mr. Vincent DiMartino, Mr. Raymond Mase of the American Brass Quintet, Dr. Ralph Gabriel and Mr. Mark McDunn.

In addition to the UBE, he is also a guest performer with The Brass Company, a brass group that performs across the midwest which also participated with UBE in their 2nd and 3rd compact disc recordings.  You can also hear him as special guest lead trumpet with the Frank Love Orchestra of Shelby, N.C. and the Ray Spires Big Band of Greenville S.C. in addition to the Western Piedmont Symphony of Hickory and many other groups in the area.  He also volunteers with various ensembles at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

In 1998 Mr. Phillips, a successful custom computer programmer, left the computer industry to once more become a full time musician, both as a performer and a recording engineer.  His recording work has had exposure across the US and Canada.  There are several CD's out now that he contributed either wholly or in part to their creation.

In the spring of 2000, he served as guest lead trumpet artist with the jazz ensembles at the North Carolina School of the Arts and Pfeiffer University.  From the summer of 2001-2004, Mr. Phillips has served as lead trumpet with the Tri-City Baptist Church Orchestra.  For the 2001-02 academic year, he served as instructor of trumpet and lead the jazz ensemble at Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina.  In November 2002 until his departure for graduate school, he has served as an adjunct professor at Lenoir-Rhyne University teaching private trumpet and a class in recording technology.  In the fall of 2002, he became the advanced section private trumpet instructor at Tri-City  Academy of Music and Arts.  Most recently, he has completed a Masters In Instrumental Performance at Oklahoma City University where he graduated with high honors.  There he served in their scholarship brass quintet, The Blackwelder Brass, and earned membership in Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda honors socities.

He has been a member of Who's Who Among Small Businessmen since 1996.  In December of 2000, he was asked to write, perform and produce music for a public service commercial for the National Association for Continence.  This commercial was submitted for contention for a Southeastern Regional Emmy award.

Since 1998, Tim has served the International Trumpet Guild as a member of the Technology Committee and Web Site Staff at their yearly  conventions.  In the January 2000 edition of the ITG Journal, his interview with legendary trumpeter Jon Faddis was published.
