Timothy
Jon Phillips, a native of Hudson, N.C., has provided all types of music
for the Unifour area since 1975. Educated at Western Carolina
University, Depaul University in Chicago, Lenoir-Rhyne College and the
NC School of the Arts, Mr. Phillips has studied with Mr. Jim Manley of St
Louis, Mr.
Arnold Jacobs, Mr.
Vincent DiMartino, Mr.
Raymond Mase of the American
Brass Quintet, Dr. Ralph Gabriel and Mr. Mark McDunn.
In addition to
the UBE, he is also a guest performer with The Brass Company, a brass
group that performs across the midwest which also participated with UBE
in their 2nd and 3rd compact disc recordings. You can also hear
him as special guest lead trumpet with the Frank
Love Orchestra of Shelby, N.C. and the Ray Spires Big Band of
Greenville S.C. in addition to the Western
Piedmont Symphony of Hickory and many other groups in the area.
He also volunteers with various ensembles at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
In 1998 Mr. Phillips, a successful custom computer programmer, left
the computer industry to once more become a full time musician, both as
a performer and a recording engineer. His recording work has had
exposure across the US and Canada. There are several CD's out now
that he contributed either wholly or in part to their creation.
In the spring of 2000, he served as guest lead trumpet artist with
the jazz ensembles at the North
Carolina School of the Arts and Pfeiffer University. From the
summer of 2001-2004, Mr. Phillips has served as lead trumpet with the Tri-City
Baptist Church Orchestra. For the 2001-02 academic year, he
served as instructor of trumpet and lead the jazz ensemble at Limestone
College in Gaffney, South Carolina. In November 2002 until his
departure for graduate school, he has served as an adjunct professor at Lenoir-Rhyne
University teaching private trumpet and a class in recording
technology. In the fall of 2002, he became the advanced section
private trumpet instructor at Tri-City
Academy of Music and Arts. Most recently, he has completed a
Masters In Instrumental Performance at Oklahoma City University where he
graduated with high honors. There he served in their scholarship
brass quintet, The Blackwelder Brass, and earned membership in Phi Kappa
Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda honors socities.
He has been a member of Who's Who Among Small Businessmen since 1996.
In December of 2000, he was asked to write, perform and produce music
for a public service commercial for the National
Association for Continence. This commercial was submitted for
contention for a Southeastern Regional Emmy award.
Since 1998, Tim has served the International
Trumpet Guild as a member of the Technology Committee and Web Site
Staff at their yearly conventions. In the January 2000
edition of the ITG Journal, his interview with legendary trumpeter Jon
Faddis was published.
