(Directed Study) Catalog
Description: Original
writing to illustrate the different forms and styles of music. Objective:
This
directed study will acquaint the composition student with 20th century techniques of
writing and will allow the student to compose works within various 20th century
parameters. A final composition project will
culminate smaller writing exercises during the semester. Text: Cope,

of Assignments: It
is assumed that all compositional exercises will be submitted in proper notational format
using Finale. Weekly
Assignments During
the semester, the student may choose to omit one (1) assignment from 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9. Final
Project: The
final project will entail writing a larger composition.
If possible, the work may be performed during the final class. Evaluation: Grading
will be based on weekly projects and a final cumulative project. Weekly
projects
80% The
student must complete 8 of 9 projects and the final project to pass the directed study.
