Dr. Thelma Rozukalns
Applied Voice
Thelma
Rozukalns holds the Doctor of Arts in Vocal Pedagogy from the University
of Mississippi, the Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the
University of Akron, the Master of Music Education from Wichita State
University and the Bachelor of Music Education from Youngstown State
University. Previous to performing and voice teaching, Dr. Rozukalns
taught elementary vocal music in Kansas public schools. At the
collegiate level, she has held positions as Adjunct Faculty at the
Maricopa County Community Colleges (Phoenix, Arizona), Rowan-Cabarrus
Community College, and was Assistant Professor of Voice and Music
Education at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. In 2001, she was
chosen as one of twelve teaching participants in the National
Association of Teachers of Singing Summer Intern Program. She is
presently Adjunct Assistant Professor of Vocal Music Education at
Lenoir-Rhyne University. Her research interests have been centered upon the
child voice and vocal health issues concerning music educators.
Dr. Rozukalns has performed as a guest soloist with the Southeastern
Ohio Symphony Orchestra (New Concord, Ohio), Parkersburg Choral Society
(Parkersburg, West Virginia), St. Paul's Choral Society (Akron, Ohio),
St. Peter's Concert Series (Mansfield, Ohio), the Singer's Club of
Cleveland (Cleveland, Ohio), Statesville Oratorio Society, Messiah
concerts at Mitchell Community College, and for the Latvian Guild of
Organists of America. Thelma Rozukalns has collaborated with her husband
and accompanist, Andris Rozukalns in art song recitals locally, as well
as in various regions of the United States, France and Latvia. The
couple have a son who resides with them in Hickory.
