Percussion Ensembles
Rick Cline, a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College
and the University of North Carolina--Greensboro, is the director of the
Lenoir-Rhyne University percussion ensembles, as well as Applied Percussion.
He is a composer of percussion ensemble music for young
ensembles and is currently working on a series of literature for these students. In
addition to his compositions for young ensembles, Cline is completing a progressive drum
set method.
Mr. Cline is an active teacher in the Hickory region,
teaching over seventy private students, working with high school drum lines, and directing
"Drumming Together", a Teen Up program for at risk teens through Catawba County
Social Services. The "Drumming Together" program has been endorsed by North
Carolina Governor, Jim Hunt.
Cline is also an active performer. He appears frequently with
the Western Piedmont Symphony, and with jazz groups Moodswings, Soul Kitchen, the Todd
Wright group and the David Wortman Trio.
Mr. Cline is proficient in all major areas of percussion and
has studied with Mohammed DeCasta, Dr. Eric Charry, Dr. Cort McClaren, Rick Dior, Jim
Chapin, and Micheal Burritt.
