MUS 150.08 (0 credit) / 151.08 (1 credit) Pep Band
Spring 2008

Conductor: David Wortman
Phone: (336) 932-0381
E-mail: david.wortman@lrc.edu

Objectives: The Pep Band rehearses and performs music for our own enjoyment and for the enjoyment of the audience at Lenoir-Rhyne College home basketball games. The student is afforded the opportunity to learn how to play and perform a wide variety of popular music styles.

Attendance: Attendance at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory. Pep Band is a performance ensemble and therefore relies primarily upon full ensemble rehearsals to prepare for performances. Additionally, a student’s course grade will be lowered for each absence or tardiness. One instance of lateness and one absence will be allowed before affecting grades.

Special Requirements

Instruments: Students are expected to provide their own instrument, flip folder, and lyre. Certain instruments are available for students to borrow at no cost from the college bands. Students wishing to check out an instrument should contact the conductor. Flip Folders and Lyres may be purchased at The Music Center on L-R Blvd.

Uniform: Students will be supplied with a pep band shirt. Because of prohibitive costs involved, returning students are expected to use the same shirt for subsequent semesters. Students must provide their own khaki pants and dress shoes (no tennis shoes!). Students not in proper uniform will not be allowed to participate.

Textbooks and Other Required Materials: Each student will be issued Pep Band Music. Students are responsible for caring for their music. Students must return all of the music at the conclusion of the semester before grades will be issued. Missing music will affect grades.

Method of Evaluation: Students are evaluated based upon their attendance, preparation, participation, and attitude. Students are expected to prepare their own parts individually, apart from rehearsals.

Rehearsals: All Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the basketball season, 4:30-5:50pm in the Band Room of the Mauney Music Building .

Games:

Women’s games are scheduled for 6pm and men’s for 8pm, except where noted.
