Syllabus,
MUS 204 (1 credit) Dr. John Cheek, ext. 7152, office #102 Sight-Singing/Aural Techniques continues your development of aural skills. Topics include dictation, solfege, sight-singing and prepared singing assignments. Course Goals: Students continue the goals of MUS 202. The emphasis will shift somewhat towards actual sight-singing rather than prepared assignments. In MUS 202, dictations were restricted mostly to linear and tonic-triad examples. In MUS 204, the harmonic vocabulary will expand to include other key areas and textures. Text: Damschroder,

of Instruction:
Class meets twice per week either in class or the computer lab. Each
class is a combination of lecture, dictation and singing based on
assignments and new material presented in class. Students will be
expected to log two hours lab time per week using the assigned
software. Evaluation:
There will be four singing and/or dictation exams, worth 20% with the
required lab time making up the remainder. Exam 1

policy:
It is expected that students will attend every class. 24 hours notice
or a doctor’s note is required for an excused absence. More than two
unexcused absences may lower the student’s grade as much as one
letter. Additional materials: writing paper, music staff paper, and sharp pencils with erasers.
