Course Objective (as defined by the catalog):
This course will provide systematic training, including computer assisted instruction, in sight singing and in the aural techniques of music for one to four voices; assist in the development of thinking musically; and address and learn to overcome difficulties in pitch and rhythm.
This course is eligible for credit by examination.

Text and Materials:
Listen and Sing: Lessons in Ear-Training and Sight-Singing, David Damschroder; Schirmer/Thompson Learning, 1995.

The student must also have a supply of staff paper and pencils (not pens).

Course Outline:
This course will cover the first 6 chapters of Listen and Sing, have three chapter quizzes,
three individual graded audits, computer-assisted assignments, and a final exam. Dates
(subject to change) are listed below for the organization of the course.

Chapter 1: Jan. 10-22; 1st audit held between 8:00 and 9:30 on 1/24. You will sign up for a time and keep it all semester.
Chapter 2: Jan. 26 -Feb. 5th; QUIZ 1 - 2/9
Chapter 3: Feb. 12-23; 2nd audit - 2/28
Chapter 4: Mar. 2 -19
Chapter 5: 3/21(NOTE: this is a Wed. because of choir tour) - 4/4 (Also a Wed. because of Easter break); QUIZ 2 - 4/4
Chapter 6: 4/13 - 4/27 QUIZ 3 - 4/23; 3rd audit - 4/25
REVIEW: 4/30

No class on the following dates:
January 15th, March 23rd , 26th

The final exam will be given on Tuesday, May 8th from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Grading Policy
The course grade will be determined from the following components:

Three Quizzes - 30 points each 90 points
Final Exam - 60 points 60 points
Computer Work 60 points
Three Audits - 30 points each 30 points
Attendance - 10 points 10 points

Total possible points 250

The grading scale is as follows:
230 - 250 = A
200 - 219 = B
175 - 199 = C
150 - 174 = D
below 150 = F
