Course Objectives:
Designed to provide keyboard experience in the formation of intervals,
chords, and
scales and their application to simple melodies and harmonies. This
course prepares the
student to meet teacher education competencies in piano proficiency and
for the piano
proficiency exam administered in Class Piano II.
This course is eligible for credit by examination.
Text and Materianls:
Lancaster, E.L. and Kenon Renfrow. Group Piano for Adults, Book 1. Van
Nuys, CA: Alfred, 1995.
Course Outline:
This course averages one unit a week from the text.
Method of Instruction and Grading Procedures (Subject to Change):
This course is taught in a multi-station digital piano lab. Classes
consist of lecture- demonstration and in-class practice. Grades will be
based as follows:
Tests - 3: 30% each
Homework, Quizzes and Classwork: 10%
The final exam will be given on Wednesday, May 10th, 10:30a.m. -
12:30p.m.
Attendance and Practice Policy:
Because the class only meets twice a week, regular attendance is
crucial. Two unexcused
absences will be allowed. Each additional unexcused absence will lower
the final grade by
one letter. Daily practice on an acoustic or digital piano is required.
Plan for at least 30
minutes per day to master the assigned material.
