SIGHTSINGING AND
AURAL TECHNIQUES

A continuation of MUS 104: systematic
training, including computer assisted instruction, in sight singing and
in the aural techniques of music for one to four voices; development of
thinking musically; meeting difficulties in pitch and rhythm. Teaching
Methodology:
Class will be in a lab format, with class attendance and
participation essential. There
is also a computer-assisted lab component,
to be done outside of class time. Materials

Outline: The
time will be evenly divided between sight singing and dictation.
Singing as a class, singing individually, and frequent audits and
dictation tests will be employed. Ear
training techniques to be studied will be recognition of the following
in both major and minor keys: scales,
intervals, chords (root position and inversions), common progressions,
and melodic and rhythmic dictation. This course will cover Chapters 7 - 18 of Listen and Sing, have dictation tests and audits after every three chapters, three individual graded audits, computer-assisted assignments, and a final exam. Dates (subject to change) are listed below for the organization of the course: Chapter 7: Aug. 24th – Aug. 27th Chapter 8: Aug. 31st - Sept. 3rd Chapter 9: Sept. 7th – Sept. 10th TEST and Audit 1: Friday, Sept. 14th Chapter 10: Sept. 17th - Sept. 24th Chapter 11: Sept. 28th – Oct. 1st Chapter 12: Oct. 5h
– Oct. 8th TEST and Audit 2: Fri., Oct. 12th Chapter 13: Oct. 15th – Oct. 26th Chapter 14: Oct. 29th – Nov. 5th Chapter 15: Nov. 9th – Nov. 12th TEST and Audit 3: Fri., Nov. 16th Chapter 16: Nov. 19th – Nov. 26th Chapter 17 and 18: Nov. 30th – Dec. 3rd The
final exam will be given on Saturday,
December 8th from 10:30

of Evaluation: Attendance
in class is absolutely mandatory! Grades
will be computed as follows:
15% - Assignments and quizzes
30% - Three major tests
30% - Computer assignments
25% - Final exam
••Each unexcused
absence will result in the lowering of the final grade by
one letter grade. Academic

stated in The Cub, cheating is not acceptable at L-R, and if practiced could
result in expulsion from the school. NC
