L-R Center for Theology sponsors discussion about Islam

The Lenoir-Rhyne College Center for Theology will present a colloquium to discuss the question of whether Islam and Western democracies can live together peacefully.

The colloquium, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 in the Bears’ Lair of the Cromer Center on campus. The Cromer Center is located at 742 6th St. NE in Hickory. Participants are asked to read in advance a paper that will be discussed at the colloquium.

This paper to be discussed was written by George Cardinal Pell, Roman Catholic archbishop of Sydney, Australia, entitled “Islam and Us.” In the paper, Cardinal Pell poses the question of whether and how Islam and Western democracies can live together peacefully.

The group discussion will be led by Dr. Larry Yoder, director of the Center for Theology. To obtain an advance copy of the paper that will be discussed, contact Beverly Hefner at hefnerb@lrc.edu or 828-328-7376.
