Phi Beta Lambda earns honors in National Competition
The Lenoir-Rhyne College Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda recently received several awards in national competition.
Only those students finishing first or second in statewide competition were eligible to compete. Approximately 1,600 students from across the United States attended.
Christy Harvey earned second place honors in Business Law competition and fourth place in Annual Business Report competition. She also earned the National President’s Award. This is the highest award that a PBL member can achieve. Harvey spent two years meeting the requirements for this award, which include 20 hours of job shadowing, completing community service projects and preparing a detailed business plan for a foreign trip. Harvey’s business plan was for an imaginary trip to Costa Rica, where she would be trying to establish PBL chapters at that country’s colleges. The document was 75 pages long. This year, only five students from North Carolina achieved this award.
Other L-R students who ranked in national competition this year included Chris DeCamp, who finished seventh in Computer Applications and seventh in Information Management; and Ashley Walker, who earned seventh place in Public Speaking.
The Lenoir-Rhyne chapter also received the National Outstanding Chapter Award and the National Gold Seal Chapter Award.
The 2006 Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference and Business Competitions were held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., on June 23-28.
