Four new members have been appointed to the Lenoir-Rhyne College Board of Trustees. They are the Rev. Randall Cauble of Newton, Duane Dassow of Greensboro, the Rev. David Keck Jr. of Hickory and James Tarlton Jr. of Hickory.
Cauble is pastor of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Hickory. He earned a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in 1982 and a master of divinity degree from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 1986. He served as pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church in Spencer, N.C., from 1986 to 1991 and has been pastor at New Jerusalem since 1991.
Cauble has also served on two boards of the N.C. Synod of the ELCA: the Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Board and Lutheran Services for the Aging. He is married to Vicki Davis Cauble. They have twin 3-year-old sons, Jacob Randall Cauble and Luke Daniel Cauble.
Dassow is president of New Home Building Supply Co. of Greensboro, N.C. He graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a degree in economics in 1975 and earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1977. He is a member of First Lutheran Church of Greensboro and a volunteer with the Boy Scouts. He served as chairman on L-R’s Annual Fund in 1988-1989 and was chair of the college’s Centennial Ball in 1991. He is married to Madeleine Smith Dassow and has two children, Patrick, 18, and Kelly, 22.
Keck is a Hickory resident and serves as pastor of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Hickory. He graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1987 and from Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1996. Before entering the ministry, he worked in Lenoir-Rhyne College Admissions from 1987 to 1991 and at the University of South Carolina Admissions Office from 1991 to 1992. He served as pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Raleigh, N.C., from 1996 to 2001. He is now serving as dean of the West Catawba Conference of the N.C. Synod and is past president of the Catawba Valley Lutheran Ministerial Association.
He is married to Nina Cunningham Keck and has two children: Rachel Keck, 8, and Robert Keck, 6. In his spare time, he is a volunteer youth soccer coach.
Tarlton is president of both Shook & Tarlton Investment Co. and HGM Inc. He is a developer of apartments, shopping centers and hotels. He is married to Judith Forlines Tarlton and has four adult children: Vernon, Lisa, Phillip Couch and Mary Jane. Tarlton holds a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of South Carolina.
He is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hickory. Tarlton has served on the boards of a number of local companies and civic groups, including Catawba Valley Community College, the Piedmont Boy Scouts, N.C. State Housing Board and Wachovia Bank. He enjoys golf and is a member of the Lake Hickory, Rock Barn and Biltmore country clubs.
