Alumni Association elects new board members
The Lenoir-Rhyne College Alumni Board recently elected new officers and board members.

Officers for the 2006-2007 academic year are Warren Danley, president; Jim Alexander, president-elect; Jen Oelkers Tice and Jeff Cook, vice presidents.

New board members include Kyle Randle, Julie Stokes Pruett, Becky Roof Gladden, David Shirlen, and Rosann Freed Whitten.

Danley, a resident of Columbus, Ohio; is a 1953 business administration graduate. He is a retired U.S. Navy commander and is also retired from the state of Ohio as a dislocated worker counselor. He is married to Janice Danley and is a member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Columbus. Danley previously served as vice president of the Alumni Association and co-chair of the college's Annual Fund.

Alexander is a 1973 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College. He is senior vice president and managing broker of the Sandy Ridge Office of Jenny Pruitt & Associates, Realtors®, of Atlanta, Ga. He is a member of Leadership Ministries, an organization that strives to help men become the leaders that God wants them to be. He is married to L-R alumna Carolyn Herman Alexander, class of 1970.

Tice is a 1995 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne and a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She works as a pre-school educator at the Catawba Science Center in Hickory. For the past three years, she has served on the Alumni Association Board. She has also served as Catawba County Alumni Chapter chair and in a variety of other volunteer roles. She lives in Hickory with her husband, Jeff, who is a 1994 graduate of L-R; and daughters Allison and Katherine Leigh.

Cook graduated from L-R in 1977. He is a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and a former L-R basketball player. He is CEO of Magnussen Furniture in High Point. Cook has served for three years on the Alumni Board. He lives in Greensboro with his wife, Janet; daughter, Cameron; and son, Dana.

Randle graduated from L-R in 1997 and earned a master of divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 2000. He is currently a pastor at Hibben United Methodist Church in South Carolina. He and his wife, Nancy Brown Randle, L-R class of 1997, live in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Pruett graduated from L-R in 1992 and earned a master of public administration degree from Appalachian State University in 1994. She is director of non-manufacturing recruitment at Catawba County Economic Development Corp. and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church of Hickory. She lives in Granite Falls with her husband, Ryan Pruett, a 1990 L-R graduate; and their children Sophie, 5, and Chloe, 2.

Gladden is a 1981 graduate of L-R who earned a master of arts in education from Western Carolina University in 1983 and a master of library science degree from Appalachian State University in 1998. She is a media specialist with Catawba County Schools at Banoak Elementary. She is a member of Sardis Lutheran Church and was a class agent from 2004 to 2006. She and her husband, Jonathan Gladden, live in Vale with their children, Sarah, 17; Caroline, 15; and Meredith, 12.

Shirlen is a 1971 L-R graduate. He is vice president of human resources for domestic supply chain for Sara Lee Branded Apparel. He is a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church of Winston-Salem and a member of the Davidson County Economic Development Commission. He and his wife, Sharon Wilkie Shirlen, a 1972 L-R graduate, live in Winston-Salem. Both of their grown children, and their son-in-law, are L-R graduates.

Whitten is a 1962 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne. She is married to David Whitten, a retired officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. She was the first woman awarded the Coast Guard Meritorious Civilian Service Medal in 1992.
Whitten taught high school and day care in several cities as she raised her two children, Natalie Irwin and David Hart Whitten Jr. She and her husband now live in Coral Gables, Fla. She is an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Miami, Fla. She has participated in numerous Alumni Association activities and was on the 40th reunion committee for her class.
