A Day with Mel Levine, MD

Nationally acclaimed learning expert, physician and author Dr. Mel Levine will present a day-long workshop for educators on Wednesday, September 27.

The event, sponsored by Patrick Beaver Learning Resource Center, Catawba Valley Medical Center and Lenoir-Rhyne, will take place at P.E. Monroe Auditorium from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Over the past thirty years Dr. Levine has pioneered programs for the evaluation of children and young adults with learning, development and/or behavioral problems. Dr. Levine's groundbreaking framework for understanding why children and youth struggle in school provides a straightforward, practical system for recognizing variations in the way children learn and uses their strengths to become more successful students.

“It is very exciting to bring the wisdom, research and expertise of Dr. Levine to educators in Catawba County, and we are grateful to community partners Catawba Valley Medical Center and Lenoir-Rhyne College for making this event possible,” Jennifer Griffin, executive director of Patrick Beaver Learning Resource Center. PBLRC is a non-profit organization that provides advocacy and support to children with learning differences and their families through professional development for teachers, direct services to children, and educational awareness for the community. “This event is a ‘can’t miss’ opportunity for anyone who is committed to helping students succeed,” Ms. Griffin points out.

Dr. Levine is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina Medical School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and former Director of the University's Clinical Center for the Study of Development and Learning. Dr. Levine is also the co-founder of All Kinds of Minds, a non-profit Institute for the study of differences in learning, with financier Charles R. Schwab.
