The Hickory Chapter of The American Guild of Organists and the Sacred Music Program at Lenoir-Rhyne College will host a concert by organist Cj Sambach at First Baptist Church of Hickory. The church is located at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 4th Street.
Sambach will present an educational and entertaining program called “The Pipe Organ INformance” on Friday, Sept. 29 at 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Several area school groups will attend the events, thanks to the sponsorship of the United Arts Council of Catawba County. These events are also free and open to the public.
Sambach will also give a free, public concert on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
A resident of Brick, N.J., and an organ performance graduate
of Westminster Choir College of Princeton, N.J., Sambach is nationally known for
his “audience appeal” programs. He combines humor, interesting explanations and
fine musicianship to create a program of interest to all ages. He is especially
dedicated to reaching young people and has devoted his performance career toward
promoting an understanding of and appreciation for the pipe organ in America.
In his two programs, Sambach will explore the instrument’s vast tonal resources,
present several entertaining compositions and explain the many fascinating facts
of the organ, known as “the king of instruments.”
These concerts are being sponsored locally in hopes of inspiring young people to study the organ and alleviate the national “organist shortage.” Parents are encouraged to bring their children ages 8 and older to one of these free concerts. This is a program the entire family will enjoy.
