Gateway Program
The Program
The Gateway Program is planned for registered nurses who have
satisfactorily completed prerequisite general education courses and who have been admitted
to the nursing major. The program permits these nurses to complete the nursing
requirements for the bachelor of science in nursing in two semesters, plus one summer
of
part-time study.

Minimum Hours for Graduation - 128 Semester Hours
Of these 128 hours, 55 are in nursing. A minimum of
36 hours in nursing will be
validated by the assessment exam and individual learning contracts. Additional nursing and
non-nursing hours may be challenged as background and experience allows. See advisor for
details.
Admission Requirements
Each potential applicant to the Lenoir-Rhyne Division of Nursing must
make application to Lenoir-Rhyne College. Upon acceptance by the College, each RN will be
assigned a nursing advisor to assist in planning course selection and sequencing. Each
student is encouraged to consult with the advisor in the program.
The applicant must:
- Be accepted by Lenoir-Rhyne College.
- Hold current registration in North Carolina.
- Have overall cumulative GPA of 2.50 minimum in all courses transferred,*** taken or
credited by examination at Lenoir-Rhyne College.
- The following courses must have been taken, transferred or credited by examination:
- Chemistry: 4 hrs beyond Chemistry 100
- Psychology 100
- Psychology 320 or Edu
220 (Human Growth and Development)
- any Sociology
- Biology 220 (Microbiology)
- Biology 281, 282 (A & P)
- A grade of "C" or above is required in these courses: Biology 281, 282, 220
and Psy 320 or Edu 220.
- Have 56 semester credits.
- A personal interview may be required.
- Letter of recommendation from present (or most recent) employer.
Each potential applicant is encouraged to obtain and review thoroughly a copy of the
Lenoir-Rhyne Catalog.
***Non-nursing courses may be transferred from Community or Senior Colleges. The
advisor can help plan a program to meet the student's individual needs.
