Clinical Background

Prof. Oakes has been a practicing OT for 30 years.  She is certified in Administration and Interpretation of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests, and in the Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) approach for pediatrics and infants.  She has successfully completed Level 1 and Level 2 of the Allen Cognitive Levels Certification.  She has completed some post graduate courses as well as completing several AOTA self studies.  She has served on the NCOTA Board is the calendar secretary of the North Carolina OT Fieldwork Education Consortium.  She was recognition in 1998 by the North Carolina Occupational Therapy Association for Outstanding Pediatric Practice in Occupational Therapy.

Dr. Norris graduated in 1977 with a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. She earned her master’s of social work degree from Louisiana State University in 1987. She completed her doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University in 2000.  Dr. Norris has worked for 15 years with adults with physical disabilities.  Her experience ranges across the continuum of care from acute clinics and rehabilitation hospitals to home care.  She is interested in the therapeutic effects of habits and rituals.

Donna Yount is the Occupational Therapy Department Administrative Assitant.  She is a graduate of Newton-Conover High School and King's College where she earned her  Associate's degree in Graphic Design.
