Psychology coordinator for the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Professor Murphy is an experimental psychologist and teaches courses such as lifespan development, cognitive psychology, and physiological psychology. He earned his Ph.D. from the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Center at the University of Rochester and went on for post-doctoral training at Vanderbilt University Medical School. His research covers topics in cognition, language, and speech perception in infants, children, and older adults. Professor Murphy is the faculty advisor for Lenoir-Rhyne's chapter of Psi Chi, the international honor society for psychology (see link at left).
