Abernethy Laurels
Abernethy Laurels is a continuing care retirement
community that serves over 400 seniors in
independent housing, as well as assisted living and
healthcare. Abernethy Laurels combines elegant
independent housing with full-service accommodations
on a fee-for-service basis. Located on a 120 acre
site in Newton, NC, Abernethy Laurels adheres to its
motto of “adding life to years.” For more

Senior Bear™ Program and partnership
between Lenoir-Rhyne University and Abernethy Laurels
is one that recognizes and supports the important of
“life long learning” for all individuals.
Collaboration between colleges and retirement
communities is a fast growing trend across the
nation as a new generation of individuals desire
more activity, intellectual, social and cultural
activity in their retirement years. The Senior Bear™
Program is open to all seniors in the Hickory
Metro area and will offer many opportunities with
the support two of Catawba County’s finest
organizations.
