INTRODUCTION
While
the primary purpose for attending college is and should remain to gain greater
intellectual competency, the idea of education through the liberal arts includes
the development of the whole person. Co-curricular activities play an important
role in this developmental process.
BASIC
POLICIES AS STATED IN THE 2005-2006 CUB
ADVISORS TO ORGANIZATIONS
Only a member of the faculty or staff of LRU may be invited to serve as an
advisor to a campus organization. Every campus organization must have an
advisor; failure to secure an advisor may jeopardize the club’s standing.
Greek organizations may have alumni advisors in addition to a campus advisor.
FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES
Any student fund-raising project scheduled on campus must be given prior
approval by the Director of Student Activities. The Fund Raising Application Form (available in that office) must be completed and submitted for approval at
least one week prior to the event in question. In case of duplication of
projects, priority will be given to the organization with the earliest
submission date. Groups wishing to conduct sales or solicitation off-campus in
Hickory must secure permission from the Vice President for Institutional
Advancement and the office of the City Manager. No organization may do a
fundraising activity on or off campus without having an approved Fund Raising
Application Form on file in the Student Activities Office. Any
organization fundraising without permission will be asked to leave and could
have their future fundraising efforts terminated.
NEW
ORGANIZATIONS
Any group wishing to organize a new club, society, or special interest group
must secure an application from the Vice President & Dean of Student Affairs
and submit its proposed constitution to the Dean for review and to the Student
Government Association for approval. Once the organization has been approved, it
is subject to all policies governing organizations and activities.
ORGANIZATION PROBATION OR SUSPENSION
The Administration reserves the right to place on probation or suspend any
organized group which fails to comply with current college regulations or which
continues to be a disruptive factor on campus. The terms of probation or
suspension will be defined by the Administration. The University will carry out
probation imposed by the national offices of any organized groups. Disciplinary
action by the Administration (or by the SGA, when appropriate) is not limited to
probation or suspension.
ORGANIZATIONS’ CONSTITUTIONS
A copy of the constitution and/or by-laws of each existing organization shall be
on file in the office of the Vice President & Dean of Student Affairs.
Revisions made to such documents should be reported to that office.
PLANNING/SCHEDULING EVENTS
Individual organizations must consult the Campus Master Calendar with the Events
and Services Manager x7254 before planning college-wide events. Activities may not be scheduled during
the first and last five class days of each semester – please consult the Cub
Calendar for the semester start and end dates for all meetings and
activities.
