Friday, August 15th

8:00am - 11:30am
Residence Halls Open - Students can move into their rooms and/or begin setting up their room if time permits. But don't expend too much energy because we have loads of fun planned!

9:00am - 4:00pm - Bookstore (bottom floor Cromer Center)
Bookstore Open - Purchase books, class material or L-R apparel.

9:00am - 5:00pm - Information Desk (Cromer Center Lobby)
Get ID Cards made - Students who have not done so may get their ID Card made during this time. All students are required to have an ID cards as they are used for meals in the campus eateries, to access residence halls, and check out books from the Rudisill Library.   

9:30am - 12:30pm - Cromer Center Lobby
Information Fair
- This is an opportunity for students and/or parents to informally talk with representatives from various departments such as Campus Activity Board, Career and Personal Development, Residence Life, Dining Services, Intramural Programs, and many more. 

11:00am - 12:00pm - Belk Centrum
Transfer and Freshman Commuter Student Meeting
- This session is mandatory for all transfer and commuter students, as you will be given important information such as your Campus I.D. (if you do not have it), health forms, etc and have an opportunity to ask questions.

11:00am -1:00pm - Dining Hall
Lunch -This is a special Lenoir-Rhyne lunch where students and parents get to spend time together before they part ways. Say your goodbyes and shed your tear of joy during this time because you won't get an opportunity afterwards.

1:00pm - 2:00pm - P.E. Monroe Auditorium
New Student Welcome Celebration - This is the premier prologue kickoff event!  In this session, we welcome students and families to the L-R family. Dr. Wayne Powell, the University President, and many other important people will address the audience.  The audience will also view a video skit, arranged by the Prologue Staff and based on the History in the Making prologue theme, that will inform, entertain and challenge you.  Students and parents will separate after this session: parents are invited to the Parents Reception, and students will get into the meat of their prologue experience.

2:30pm - 3:00pm - P.E. Monroe Auditorium
Free T-shirts - Okay, there is a catch!  These t-shirts are to be worn on Saturday during the Hands on Hickory community service projects.

2:30pm - 3:15pm - Belk Centrum
Parents Reception - Parents, this brief session is designed to help you start your student's Lenoir-Rhyne career off to a great start, and to discuss parent's role in the L-R community.         

3:00pm - 3:15pm - Outside P.E. Monroe Auditorium
Find Your Prologue Group - This is our version of organized chaos!  Each prologue group leader(s) will hold up high signs with a group number. At this time the students find their group number (while the parents depart to the parents reception or head for home). This is the first time that students get into their groups, and it begins your transition into the L-R community.

3:15pm - 5:00pm - Various Locations
Orientation Session I - Let the games begin! - We won't spill the beans here, but we can assure you that this session will feature loads of fun, lots of laughs and a little "group bonding."  Oh, and you will get some important information too.

5:00pm - 6:30pm - Dining Hall
Dinner with Prologue Group featuring special dessert! - This will be most students' first meal as an L-R student. Nervous??? Don't be, we've got you covered.  You won't forget this meal, we promise!

6:30pm - 7:00pm - TBD
Class & Group Pictures - Say "cheese!"  This is an opportunity for you to become immortalized in annals of Lenoir-Rhyne history as the first prologue group of Lenoir-Rhyne University.

7:00pm - 8:30pm
Free Time - We pause the excitement here to allow some time to relax, unpack a little more, take a brief nap or just hang out and meet your new classmates.

*7:00pm - 8:30pm - Fritz-Conrad Lobby
Commuter student session - Commuter students are invited to meet other commuters, chat with current students or just lounge around until the next session.

8:30pm - 9:30pm - Various Locations
Orientation Session II - How we roll! - All students will meet with their prologue group at their designated meeting spot.  The groups will go to one of their prologue leader’s room to hang out, eat, ask questions about anything and hear how we roll at L-R.

9:30pm - 9:50pm - Russell House Lawn
Outdoor Vespers - Pastor Weisner, the University pastor, leads everyone in an ecumenical spiritual ceremony that includes a prayer for a successful year. This is a very short yet meaningful experience.

10:00pm - until - Residence Halls

Building
and Floor Meetings - Residential students will meet the Area Coordinator and the Resident Advisor staff for their building.  They will discuss residential policies, safety practices, etc. 

*Commuting students are dismissed at this point. 

Saturday August 16th

8:00am - Dining Hall
Breakfast with Prologue Group (free w/ meal ticket) - Rise and shine and eat a hearty breakfast.  You will need the energy as you get your hands dirty during Hands on Hickory.

9:00am - Noon - Depart from Various Locations
Hands on Hickory - At Lenoir-Rhyne we believe in service.  New students make their mark early on in their L-R experience by participating in community service projects throughout the Hickory community.  It's a perfect blend of work and fun!

Noon - 1:30pm - Russell House Lawn
What’s in Your Backyard? - There is a lot of good eatin' around here, and this is your chance to taste some good food from all around the Hickory area.  Fill your belly as local restaurants provide samplings from their best menu items.
 

1:30pm - 4:15pm
Free-Time/Trips to Area Stores - Students can hang out, continue setting up their room, take a nap, or venture out into the community with a couple of prologue leaders. 

4:30pm - 5:30pm - Various Locations
Orientation Session III - Get in where you fit in! - There are more opportunities to get involved in the L-R community than you can imagine - academic organizations, interest organizations, athletics, Greek organizations, religious organizations and service groups - to name a few.  A promise: you will only get out of your L-R experience what you put in.  The group leaders will facilitate a discussion about the numerous events that take place on campus, campus student organizations, sporting events and many other things that students do on campus and in the local community.

6:30pm - 8:30pm - Kool Park
Kool Park Waterpark - It's Hot!  Students will be able to cool off in Hickory's enormous pool.  Complete with high diving boards, a waterslide, unique pool features, and plenty of shaded lawn space to hang out, students can take a dip or simply grab a spot in the shade in an electrifying atmosphere of music and fun. This is a highlight of the prologue experience each year.   Participation in water activities is optional; however, all students should bring appropriate sunscreen, sunblock, etc.  Remember to bring your swimwear if you plan on engaging in water activities.

“Traffic Jam” Residence Hall Mixers - The Residence Life staff will help you get to know your building-mates in the most interesting manner.  By the time this is over, you will know everyone in your building.  Commuters are encouraged to attend.

Sunday, August 17th

10:00am - Cromer Center Lobby
Chapel
- This is an opportunity to experience what chapel is like at Lenoir-Rhyne. Though this service may be short, its impact will last.  Join Pastor Weisner, prologue leaders and fellow classmates in this experience. 

10:45am - 1:00pm - Dining Hall
Brunch (Free w/ meal ticket) - Alright, we're taking the training wheels off.  Students can attend brunch if they wish; however, you must bring your ticket to eat.

1:00pm - 3:00pm - P.E. Monroe Auditorium, Belk Centrum, Dining Hall
Orientation Session IV (Health & Safety Presentations and Discussion) - Students will participate in three concurrent sessions that will inform, educate and empower them to be safe, healthy and enjoy their L-R experience.  These sessions are interactive and involve discussion about, but not limited to drugs and alcohol, fire safety, sexual issues and health issues. 

3:00pm - 4:30pm
Free Time/ Complete Online Survey - During this time students are to complete the C.I.R.P. online survey, if they have not done so.  The survey may be at the location of the student's choosing whether that be in their room on own computer or in one of the computer labs around campus.

4:30pm - 5:30pm - Dining Hall
Dinner (ID Cards Activated) - Students are recommended, but not required to attend dinner. They do not have to sit with their Prologue groups unless they wish to. 

6:00pm - 7:30pm - Faculty/Staff homes
Dessert Social/Freshman Read Discussion with Faculty
- Each freshman is required to read Letters to a Young School Teacher by Jonathan Kozol (books will be distributed at Jumpstart). Students will convene at faculty and/or staff member's homes to chat, have dessert and discuss the book.

*Students must change into appropriate attire before next session.

8:45 pm - Meet prologue group at designated meeting spot dressed appropriately.

9:00pm - 10:00pm - St. Andrew's Church
Beginning the Journey
- This is a very special tradition for new students.  This culminating session includes students speaking on their L-R experience, faculty presenting on Lenoir-Rhyne's founding principles its history, its present and its future.  Each new student will sign the honor code, which will be posted around campus to remind students of their commitment to academic integrity. 

10:00pm - Until - Russell House Lawn
Movie on the Lawn - To wrap up the whole weekend, we will feature a movie on our gigantic outdoor movie screen.  You've never seen a movie like this!  Snacks and drinks are provided. Many upperclassmen students may join us for this event.  

Monday, August 18th

8:00 am - Rhyne 259
Foreign Language Placement Test - Students who believe they are proficient enough in a foreign language may take the placement test to determine if they can "test out" of the course.  By passing the placement test they would begin their foreign language requirements at the 200 level courses instead of the basic level courses.

9:00 am - Rhyne 149
Math Challenge Test - Students are placed in math levels based on their high school courses and  SAT math score.  Students who believe that they are capable of beginning at a higher level math course may take the Math Challenge Test to determine the level of math that is appropriate for them.   Visit the following link to learn more about the test:

Meet Your Advisors (Mandatory)
- Each student has an advisor, who is a professor in the major that the student is majoring in, that helps them with scheduling of classes and in general through the students career on campus. This is the time for the student and their advisor to meet. During this time students also meet other students who also are being advised by that professor as well.

Honors Student Meeting
- Students who are honors students will meet for the first time. The students learn what is expected of them as an honors student and what they will receive from being an honor student.
