Frequently Asked Questions

How are room assignments made?

Room assignments are made based on the date of your deposit in the Admissions Office. We try to match roommates based upon the answers you provide on the Housing Information form. Therefore, it is imperative that you be as honest as possible in regard to your personal study and lifestyle habits.

When will I find out what my room assignment is and who my roommate will be?

Housing confirmations will be sent to all students in late July. The information you receive will include your room assignment, as well as the name, home address and phone number of your roommate. Once you receive your housing confirmation, it is a good idea to contact your roommate to start to get to know him/her and to decide who will bring the vital room "stuff," e.g. the stereo, TV, etc.

What can I do if I want to live with a specific person?

There is a space on the Housing Information form where you can request to live with a specific roommate. Only mutual, written requests can be honored.

What are the room, bed, and window measurements?

Specific room information can be found under the "Residences" portion of the Residence Life web pages.

What size sheets should I buy?

Mattresses are 75" or 80" depending on the room. We suggest that you purchase the extra long sheets.

What about laundry services?

Each residence hall is equipped with washers and dryers.

What can I bring to college?

Please review the "What to bring to College" web page.

What furniture is provided?

Each room has a bed, desk, chair, closet, mirror, and dresser for each occupant.

Can I get a refrigerator once I get to L-R?

Unfortunately at this time Lenoir-Rhyne College does not rent refrigerators .

Will my room be cleaned

Housekeeping cleans common areas such as lounges and hallway bathrooms.  You are responsible for cleaning your own room.

Does the school have insurance for the property I bring to school?

No. Please be sure your parents check their homeowner's insurance to have your property adequately covered.

Can I live off-campus?

Students who are seniors, part time, married or above the age of 22 are permitted to live off campus. Also, students who live with their parents within a 40 mile radius do not have to live on campus.

Can I have a car on campus?

Yes. All students, faculty, staff of the College who operate a motor vehicle to, from, or on the campus are required to register the vehicle with the Security Office. Yearly parking registration costs $40.00. Parking an unregistered vehicle on campus will result in a $30.00 fine.

Can I study in my room?

Quiet hour guidelines are established in order to respect the rights of others and to maintain an appropriate atmosphere for academic pursuits.  Quiet hours are from 9:00pm to 9:00am Sunday through Thursday (this includes Friday morning to 9:00am) and 12:00 a.m. to 9:00am Friday and Saturday.  During exam periods, Quiet Hours are in effect 24 hours a day beginning the night prior to Reading Day.  Quiet Hours mean residents must maintain a very low level of conversation, noise, TV/stereo volume during Quiet Hours.  Consideration hours are all hours not designated as quiet hours.  Consideration hours mean that noise must be kept at a level that is not disturbing to other residents.  No student shall act in a manner that can reasonably be expected to infringe upon the privacy, rights, privileges, health or safety of other persons.  Screaming/yelling anywhere in the Residence Halls is discouraged.

What is the visitation policy?

It is a fair expectation that every student may have opportunity for privacy in their room without the presence of members of the opposite gender.  Residence Hall students may therefore have adult guests of the opposite gender visit in their residence hall rooms only during the following hours:

               Visitation for Freshman Residence Halls

Sunday through Thursday                10:00am to Midnight
Friday and Saturday                         10:00am to 1:00am

                Visitation for Upper-class Residence Halls

Sunday through Thursday                10:00am to Midnight
Friday and Saturday                         10:00am to 4:00am

Tell me a little bit about the staff.

The Residence Life program is directed by the Associate Dean of Students and 3 Area Coordinators.  We have @ 30 Resident Assistants (specially trained undergraduate students), spread throughout the campus.
