Job Description
Residence
Area Council (RAC)
RAC
is a student organization within each residence hall that serves to
enhance the environment of the hall. RAC presents social and
educational activities in the residence halls, as well as addresses
residents' needs and concerns. Elections for officers are held each
year during Fall Semester.
Purpose
of Residence Area Council
-
Promote and facilitate exchange of
ideas and information between the residence hall student and the SGA.
-
Plan, promote, implement, and
encourage attendance in an on-going schedule of residence area
extracurricular programming.

To assist in whatever manner
necessary to positively maintain, enhance, and improve resident
student life.

Membership
-
The Residence Area Council shall be
composed of one representative from each hall of the residence area,
i.e., six hall representatives from each, Fritz-Conrad,
Living-Learning Center, Morgan, (one representative from each floor
of the long wings), and Isenhour. Price Village will have ten
Residence Area Council Representatives divided as follows: Unit A -
one representative, Unit B- one representative, Units D,E, F - one
representative, Unit G - one representative, Units H, I, J, K - one
representative, Unit L, M, N, O - one representative, Unit U - one
representative, Unit V - one representative.

The election of the residence area
president shall take place within the first two weeks of the fall
semester, at required hall meetings. The vote shall be by secret
ballot, and the number of nominations shall be limited to twelve
residents.

The election of the Hall
Representatives shall take place before the end of the first month
of school, and shall be directed by the Residence Area President
under the supervision of the Residence Director/Area Coordinator.
The elections will be held at a required hall meeting - nominations
being limited to three residents, and the vote to be taken by secret
ballot.

The
election shall be binding except in the following instances:

The
nominee or elected person refuses to serve.
-
The nominee or elected person
does not have an academic or collegiate record as required by
the student standards in The Cub.
-
The election is held under
pressure, intimidation, or by any means other than a secret
ballot.

Resident Advisors will assist
in the identification of possible RAC representatives.

RAC
President
To be nominated and elected to the
office of Residence Area president, the student must have the
following eligibility requirements:
-
The person must have a grade point
average of 2.0 or better, and be a student in good standing within
the college community. Freshmen and transfer students will be
given the first semester to show their academic standing.

The person must be willing to
devote a substantial amount of time to the pursuance of the
purpose of the Residence Area Council.
-
The person must be willing to
uphold the policies and standards of Lenoir-Rhyne College, and to
the best of their ability, influence those whom they represent to
do the same, and to participate in Open House staffing in their
area.
-
The person must be willing to work
with those around them; including the Resident Advisors and the
Residence Director, and campus Residence Area Council Advisor.

The person must be able to devote
certain amounts of time to the seat they will assume on the
Student Government Executive Cabinet.
Duties
of the RAC President
-
To represent the Residence Area at
meetings of the Student Government Executive Cabinet.
-
To officiate at the Residence Area
Council meetings.
-
To, by example and influence,
uphold and enforce the standards and policies of the Residence
Area and Lenoir-Rhyne College.
-
To actively promote the betterment
of the of the Residence Area and the College.
-
To attend and participate in
Residence Director/Area Coordinator, Resident Assistant, and
regular program development meetings.
Termination of Duties:
The
Residence Area President shall be asked to resign for the following
reasons:

Abuse
and/or neglect of Lenoir-Rhyne Residence Life policies and
regulations.
-
The
continuing neglect of duties, responsibilities, and authority.

Hall
Representatives Duties
-
To represent one’s hall at
meetings of the Residence Area Council.
-
To expose themselves to the
residents of the hall, so as to obtain ideas, information, or
other concerns of their residents for presentation at Residence
Area Council meetings, and to inform one’s hall of the actions
of the RAC.
-
To, by example and by influence,
uphold and enforce the standards and policies of the Residence
Area and Lenoir-Rhyne College, and to participate in Open House
staffing.
-
To be responsible to students on
hall or in areas they represent, to the Residence Area President,
the Residence Director/Area Coordinator, the Associate Dean of
Students. Also, they are responsible to the officers of the SGA as
a whole.
-
To actively promote the betterment
of the Residence Area.
-
To produce a monthly Residence Area
newsletter containing news of SGA/Residence Life information, etc.
-
To hold Bi-monthly hall meetings to
discuss residence hall projects programs, SGA concerns, Residence
Life concerns, etc.
-
To plan, promote, implement, and
encourage participation in- Residence Area programs and 6
individual hall programs - per academic year in cooperation with
SGA, Residence Life, LRC Campus Activities Board (CAB).

To participate in SGA General
Assembly meetings in September, November, January, and March of
each academic year.
-
To assist in the positive
maintenance and improvement of the Residence Area environment, by
assisting SGA/Residence Life/other LR officials.
Termination of Duties:
The Hall Representatives will be
asked to resign their position for the same reasons as the Residence
Area President.

Advisors
Duties
-
The Residence Director/Area
Coordinator will be the Administrative Advisor to the Residence
Area Council.
-
The Residence Director/Area
Coordinator will advise and clarify the Residence Area Council on
procedural matters, to be considered by the Council, within the
Residence Area.
-
The Residence Director/Area
Coordinator will have the right to ask the Residence Area Council
member, if the time arises, to resign for any of the previous
stated reasons.
