Emergency Procedures Guide and Guidelines for Lenoir-Rhyne College

BOMB THREAT

SYNOPSIS OF BOMB THREAT PROCEDURES

  1. The President of Lenoir-Rhyne College or his designated representative is responsible for the overall direction of campus emergency procedures and may determine appropriate response.

  2. Person receiving bomb threat or discovering a potential bomb will notify the on-duty security officer (S/O), and will complete the “Bomb Threat Report Form”.

  3. On Duty Security Officer (S/O) will:

    1. Notify members of the Campus Emergency Task Force.

    2. Follow the directions of the Task Force Leader.

    3. Direct the evacuation of the affected area (unless otherwise directed by the Task Force Leader)*.

    4. Notify Hickory Police Department at 328-5551.

    5. Provide radio communications to the Task Force.

  4. Persons evacuating threatened buildings will:

    1. Follow fire drill evacuation procedures.  DO NOT ACTIVATE FIRE ALARM.  DO NOT ACTIVATE PORTABLE RADIOS IN THE AREA OF THE BUILDING(S).

    2. Proceed to a clear area at least 500 feet away.

    3. Stay together to help officials determine that evacuation is complete.

    4. Not return until authorized by a campus official.

    5. Follow directions of campus officials.

  5. In general Lenoir-Rhyne’s responsibilities are:

    1. Evacuate

    2. Notify

    3. Account for personnel

    4. Get out of the way

  6. Hickory Police Department will:

    1. Notify Fire Department

    2. Conduct initial search/evaluation.

    3. Notify Bomb Disposal Unit if appropriate.

      1. Another County

      2. FBI

      3. Military

*             In case of repeated or “hoax” threats, the President or the Campus Emergency Task Force may alter or determine the response procedure.
