NOTIFICATION
SYSTEM
-
The telephone is the primary
means of emergency notification at Lenoir-Rhyne College.
This system is intended for the immediate transmission of specific
information regarding an emergency to all areas of the campus.
-
Only
the Campus Emergency Resource Team (Task Force) shall receive the initial
notification that an emergency exists.
The Task Force will be instructed at this time by the Task Force
Leader (President of the college) as to the location where they will
assemble. Once assembled, the
Task Force shall begin operations under the direction of the Task Force
Leader. Each member of the Task
Force will have key personnel whom they wish to notify and have on standby,
ready to initiate any plan of action.
-
The
Department of Security and Safety is the focal point for two-way
transmission of official telephone communications to College administrators.
The Department of Security and Safety will have the responsibility of
notifying the Task Force and others of a threatening situation.
Further notification of student body, faculty and staff will be as
directed by the Task Force. No
one shall communicate emergency information until they are sure that the
source of that information if that of the Task Force.
-
During
an emergency, the campus telephone must be restricted to College official
notification only. In the
absence of telephone service, the Department of Security and Safety may
provide runners, or two-way radio communications for emergency notification.
WARNING
SYSTEM
-
NIGHT:
After
working hours, the major concentration of people in campus buildings will be
in residence halls. When the Department of Security and Safety has been
instructed to execute evacuation plans, they shall contact the Director of
Residence Life. The Director of
Residence Life will in turn notify the Residence director of each residence
hall and give instructions pertinent to the emergency situation which
exists.
-
The
Department of Security and Safety shall also have the responsibility of
notifying the night custodial supervisor.
The custodial supervisor shall be responsible for the notification of
his/her custodial crews in their respective buildings.
-
DAY:
The
day-time warnings will involve more people than the night-time warnings.
Initially however, the Director of Residence Life will respond in the
same manner during the day as he/she did during the night-time notification.
-
During
normal working hours, we must also warn the faculty and staff.
The Department of Security and Safety shall notify the Vice President
for Academic Affairs and the Vice President of Administration and Finance in
addition to the Director of residence Life.
Since these two officers are already members of the
Task Force, this requirement makes no alteration to the existing
plan.
-
The
Vice President for Administration and Finance must ensure that all directors
which report to him/her are notified in order that they, in turn, can
evacuate their departments. The
President for Academic Affairs will ensure that the Library as well as other
departments who report to him/her are notified in order that they can also
evacuate.
-
It
is the responsibility of the Vice Presidents and Directors to:
-
Develop
a notification plan for their areas of responsibility.
-
Test
the plan.
-
Ensure
that notification reaches all areas within areas of responsibility.
-
Ensure
that all areas are cleared and that everyone has been notified.
-
Ensure
the overall safety and efficiency of the evacuation process within their
areas.
