Crime Prevention - Vehicle Safety

THEFTS FROM VEHICLES

Millions of dollars worth of property is stolen from vehicles each year throughout America. Hickory and Lenoir-Rhyne College are no exceptions. A large number of the thefts occur at night, however, it can also occur during the day. As with all crime prevention, the responsibility is yours. A few simple precautions can go a long way in preventing you from being a victim.

  • Park in well-lighted areas and if possible, avoid parking next to vans, pick-ups and other large vehicles. These large vehicles can provide concealment for a thief making it more difficult for passersby to observe the thief's activity.

  • Always check to see that your car is locked when you leave it. Avoid leaving books and items of value lying visible in the vehicle. Put them in the trunk instead.

  • Report suspicious persons in or around motor vehicles immediately.

  • Do not leave your car keys in your car.

Lenoir-Rhyne College Security is available for assistance 24 hours a day. They can be reached by dialing 7146 from any campus telephone and 328-7146 from any non-campus telephone. All thefts and suspicious persons should be reported to security immediately.
