Student Computer Information

There is no requirement that students own a personal computer. However, many students find benefit from having their own computer. If you are considering the purchase of a new computer, L-R recommends a laptop-based computer. Laptop computers can easily travel with you around campus. You will find them to be very helpful in taking notes and collaborating with other students on assignments.

Personal computer recommendations

Choose one of two options

Option 1 - Buy a new computer. If you choose to buy a new computer, we recommend configurations that will meet your computing needs for the next several years at LRC.

Option 2 - Bring the computer you already have. If you have an older computer you'd like to bring, you can verify it will work on our network and meet our minimum requirements for technical support.

Actually, there's a third option

Option 3 - Use LRC's computer labs. If you aren't in the market for a new computer and don't have one to bring, you can still get your work done in one of our computer labs. Even if you have your own computer, the labs are a great place to work.

If students need to purchase computer accessories such as a ethernet card or cable, they may find Best Buy, Office Max or Office Depot their best option.

The college provides access to the campus network, but students are responsible for their own network components and software configuration.  There is no fee for accessing the campus network.  For step-by-step instructions to connect to the network, click here.
