What's that "stutter tone"? (student phones only)

When you pick up your phone receiver and hear a "stutter" dial tone, it indicates that you have new voice mail messages. Go to the next section, "Logging in," for instructions on checking your messages.


 

Logging In

Logging in means accessing your mailbox in the Meridian Mail system so that you can play your messages and use all the other Meridian Mail features

To log in from your own phone

  • Dial 7000
  • Press #
  • Enter your password, then press #

To log in from another phone

When you are way from your own phone, you can access your mailbox from any other touch-tone phone.

  • Dial 7000 (on Campus) or (828) 328-7000 (off Campus)
  • Enter your Ext., then press #
  • Enter your Password, then press #

Playing your messages

  • Log in and listen to the first message announcement
  • To play the message, press 2
  • To skip back, press 1.
  • To skip forward, press 3.
  • To pause, press #; to continue, press 2
  • To go to the next message, press 6
  • To go to previous message, press 4
  • To go to a specific message, press 86 (message number), #
  • To delete a message, press 76 while playing the message or its announcement
  • To restore a deleted message (with the current session only),press 76 again
  • To play the message envelope press 72

 

Emptying Your Mailbox

To empty your mailbox

  • Press 76 to delete each message while playing the message or its announcement
  • Press 81 to empty your mailbox if you wish to log in again without hanging up.

Changing Your password

For security reasons, you should change your password from the one you were first assigned. After that, you can change your password as often as required.

To change your password

  • While logged into your Meridian Mail, press 84.
  • Enter your new password, then press #
  • Your password may be from four to 16 numbers or letters, except the characters # and *.
  • Enter the new password again, then press #
  • Enter your old password, then press#

 


Recording your name (personal verification)

Personal verification is a recording you make of your own name and other information such as your title or extension number.

To record a personal verification

  • While logged in to Meridian Mail, press 89
  • Press 5 to record. Wait for tone, then record.
  • Press # to end recording

 


 

Recording internal and external greetings

To record your greeting

  • While logged into mailbox press 82
  • Press 1 for external greeting, 2 for internal greeting, or 3 for temporary greeting 
    (External greeting is what off-campus callers will hear.
    Internal greeting is what on-campus callers will hear.
    Temporary greeting is used when you are away from the office and want both internal and external callers to hear the same greeting. Upon your return, delete temporary greeting and your current greetings will be restored.)
  • You may set the day and time the temporary greeting will expire by pressing 9 or listen for further instructions.
  • If you want to hear current greeting press 2
  • Press 5 to record (wait for tone)
  • Press # when you are done recording

To play your greeting

  • You can play the greeting by pressing 2

To re-record your greeting

  • While at the beginning of the greeting, press 5 to record.Repeat the steps above for recording.

To delete your greeting

  • Press 76 to delete your greeting

To exit

  • Press 4 to exit
     

Name Dialing

If you don't know a person's extension, the Meridian Mail system can find it for you.

  • Dial 328-7696 (or just 7696), then 55
  • Begin entering the last name on the keypad (use 7 for Q, and 9 for Z)
  • Press #
  • When the name is found, you will automatically be connected to the mailbox for that person.

To leave a voice mail message on another number:

  • Dial 6000. When prompted, dial the extension

Meridian Mail short cuts
(note: these do not work on student phones)

  • To put your phone on FORWARD, just press the forward button twice.
  • While listening to a message, press 1 to "rewind" or 2 to "forward"
  • When checking your voice mail from your own phone, you don't have to dial your own number when prompted. Just press # when asked for the extension and the system will automatically ask for your password.
  • Transferring calls: While you have the caller on the line, press transfer, dial the number, then press transfer again.

Telephone Out of Office Notification

After logging into your mailbox:

  • Press 82 for your greetings.
  • Choose options 3 for temporary greeting.
  • Follow prompts and record your message.
  • Set expiry date

Upon returning to your office, log into your mailbox:

  • Press 82 for your greetings.
  • Choose options 3 for temporary greeting.
  • Press 76 to delete temporary greeting.
  • Delete expiry date.
